THE referee in charge of the controversial Champions League semi-final between Liverpool and Chelsea reckons that he did the Londoners a favour by awarding the goal. He believes that Chelsea would have been better off 1-nil down rather than having their keeper Petr Cech sent off and conceding a penalty.

"I believe Chelsea would have preferred the goal to count rather than face a penalty with just ten men for the rest of the game," Lubos Michel said.

"If my assistant referee had not signalled a goal, I would have given a penalty and sent off goalkeeper Petr Cech."

The volume of the Anfield crowd cut communications between Michel and Roman Slysco, the linesman who gave the goal.

Michel added: "Roman beeped me to signal the foul by Cech, but I didn't know that till later.

"It was the noise from the crowd that stopped me hearing it. I have refereed at places like Barcelona, Ibrox, Manchester United and Arsenal. But I've never in my life been involved in such an atmosphere. It was incredible."

"I did not need the signal from Roman, though. I had already seen the foul and played advantage. There was no doubt in Roman's mind about the goal and he was in the best position to see."

"I chose him to be part of our team and I trust him. He is a heart surgeon and mistaken decisions are not allowed in his job."

"There was not even need to confer. He signalled the goal and sprinted back to the half-way line."

With all due respect pal, you should care about us being in the Champions League next season as it's worth about 15 million quid to the club just for being in it, regardless of how far we may advance. It will also be more difficult to attract top players without the lure of playing in the competition IMO.

As for the winners of the competition not getting an automatic berth for the following season, well I think that's a pretty odd call and inconsistant with many other major competitions. I guess it'll just have to be the domestic treble next year then. Bummer. :(

There is that other competition....The UEFA Cup !!!!! So its not all domestic and, I think if Gerrard stays, that trophy might not be out of the question.

Meh who cares if were not in the CL next year. I didn't expect to be in it for next season anyway, Benitez is doing a re-build on our entire squad. Its his first season in a team full of players he didn't want. What else can you expect, if being in the CL every year (like Real Madrid) brings us glory hunting and tactically ignorant supporters like fh_29, I don't want to be in it every year. Now piss off and crawl back up your own ass. :nape:

Rumour has it negotiations on a new deal on the shirt sponsor that is Carlsberg is collapsing and in the box seat is rumoured to be LG to take over for next season. I uploaded a pic on what it may look like (Pic taken from RAWK)

Also, confirmed we are wearing Red in the CL final with Milan wearing their 'lucky' white kit. Glad we won't have to look at the yellow kit any more. (6)

Thoughts?

how dare you call me that brazilian p00l fan! :o
just because I support a club in another country doesn't make me a glory hunter... supporting madrid because they go to cl every year would, though... or support madrid only because gala aren't world beaters...

Some Chilean newspapers have reported that Liverpool was about to make a 3m offer for Mark Gonzalez (LW, he's in Albacete)... but he got a serious injury last weekend (6 months out), so there won't be any deal. :nape:

Too bad he seems to be hesitant about staying cause I want him back for next season. He knows how to play WELL in the EPL. An off season acquisition would need time to get used to it. Also, I feel that Gerrard might be convinced into staying if Didi returns...he is a better player with the German in the lineup! :rockman:
