The USSF don't want to leak money by investing too much into the US Open Cup because they know the return will not be equally big. In essence it's a sound business decision, but the USSF wipe their asses with $100 bills, you'd think they could afford to invest a little more into the US Open Cup.Originally posted by Glorious_Fan
stupid us soccer, i mean then you guys can truely brag of being champions of CONCACAF, OPEN CUP & MLS and say you are the kings of the continent i mean those 2 comps could really blossom into a Champions league like atmosphere if they put the effort into it
As for the Champions Cup, that's not US Soccer's problem. It's CONCACAF's problem. The tournament is a joke, a laughable cash prize for winning (much less than the US Open Cup prizes), pathetic refereeing and promotion as if they're exhibition games. Mexican and American players treat them like exhibition games as well. A lot of MLS players despise the tournament and some think MLS should pull out of it. A lot of them just don't care. As long as Mexican and American players treat it as a third-rate tournament, it WILL be a third-rate tournament.
But like I said, hopefully now the World Club Championship will bring more intensity in to the Champions Cup. More cash for winning - as well as a TV deal - would definitely help as well.
