the match engine on 03 04 is s**t

man i really hate the CM 03 04 match engine. It's been totally ruined since CM4, which in my opinion was close to perfect (apart from the offides) Now, 99% of runs down the wing end up with the defender putting the ball out for a corner, and 99% of corners just get headed away by the defence. I tried to get around this by setting my corners to short, but then the player taking the corner just passes to the closest opposing defender! I'm also finding that my striker scores once in a blue moon, and is hardly ever actually in the box, choosing to sit in midfield or on the wing most of the time instead despite having no instructions to do either! I am seriously considering going back to CM4, it was so much more fun!

that hasnt happened with me. IN my view the match engine is much improved.

Have you got the second EP mark?

yeah i'm on 4.1.3 but it doesnt seem to have changed anything from 4.1.2, and i've started a new game to make sure. I'm getting extremely frustrated that i can't even beat a non league team more than 1 or 2 nil on most occasions because my team (man utd) get very few chances, and nearly every one is wasted. One of my players misses from about 2 yards at least once or twice a match, players shoot extremely wide from 30 yards when they don't even have long shots ticked, van nistelrooy doesn't ever get anywhere near having a shot, let alone scoring a goal. It seems the only players who ever get any chances are the ones with 18-20 in pace because they can just run the length of the pitch without being stopped, anyone else has no chance.

I always score lots from crosses from my wingers (followed by a tap-in) and corners are my second most. Actually, if I score it's mostly 1 of those 2

it's bugging me even more cos that's what the 4.1.3 patch was supposed to fix, maybe mine hasn't worked for some reason. I might try uninstalling the game, then installing it again and installing 4.1.3 without 4.1.2 ever being on the game.. that might help. Incidentally, has anyone noticed this f**k up?

maybe i've just been unlucky and it's buggered itself up somehow, i've just reinstalled it, so when my new game has created itself in a half hour or so i will see if it's any different. I was encountering other bugs too, like Tim Howard disappearing from the Man U squad (i could only find him using quick search) so it would point to something being not quite right..

ive been Liverpool for a season and a bit now, and in my first season i got a realistic amount of shots/goals just playing a basic attacking 442. Nothing special.

too many shots go over from close range, it should have more realistic shots, just a side foot curve round the keeper when one on one, and the strikers missing the shots are good. Plus the ball seems to be shot at the keeper way too often.

i'd agree if we didn't create chances, but i had about 30 in the game which were all blazed over, shot at the keeper, or tackled away at the last minute, and this is by a non league side!

Maybe it's taking into account the fact that world class players can't be bothered to play against a non-league side, which would explain why i do much better in the league, and why the 16 year old striker scored the goal that won the game..

completly agree, there are less stories surfacing about how RVN has scored 80 in 30 appearences, in my view 0304 has got it spot on.

yes, the topscorers in my first two seasons were:
26 goals in 36 games (Romeo)
29 goals in 37 games (Romeo)
29 goals in 30 games (Casas) <-not yet finished
