Inter Withdraw The Number 3 Shirt

MILAN - F.C. Internazionale has been granted permission from the Italian Football League and UEFA (for the 2006/07 Champions League) to withdraw the club's number 3 shirt, worn 634 times by Giacinto Facchetti. From Friday 8 September 2006, Argentine defender Nicolas Burdisso will wear the number 16 shirt."I am proud to be the last Inter player to wear the number 3 shirt" Burdisso said. "I am honoured to change number today as a mark of respect for and in memory of Giacinto Facchetti, a man and not just a president, who was very close to me when I went through a difficult time with my family."

MANCINI: "ADRIANO IMPORTANT FOR INTER"

Are we likely to see Ibrahimovic and Crespo start tomorrow's match in Florence, with Adriano ready to come on during the game?
"We still haven't trained today. We will see after. And there's time from now until tomorrow, so I will see who will play."

What does Adriano represent for Inter now?

" Adriano is a very important player for Inter, and he always has been. He can make the difference when he's on form and is playing like he can. He was important last season and he is important this year. Although other important players have arrived, he is still a great player."

So no one should be shocked if he doesn't start matches from time to time?

"No one should be shocked because there are no fixed regulars. With so many matches to play the players must be ready for the next game or ready to come on during matches, like in the Super Cup when fresh players came on, did their bit and managed to help the team get the final result. This must be everyone's outlook."

How are you thinking of helping Adriano deal with exclusions or changes, seeing as the Brazilian has always been sensitive to these things?

"He has been left out in the past. Like I just said, it is nothing serious if a player has been left out. He must always be ready to make his contribution when he plays. Adriano might be left out just as Ibrahimovic and Crespo could be left out. But this must not become a problem or a debate in every press conference."

That stupid mother****er has disrespected King Recoba by relegating him to the stands with the common folk?

I swear to GOD, man. I wanna rock and roll on his ass! :kader: :lui:

I too do not agree with Mancini's decision, but I feel that it is the most appropriate. Remember that Ibrahimovic and Crespo are 5 Star players, Adriano is a MUST and Cruz has shown an incredible continuity...

I rate Cruz ahead of Crespo. Sorry, but I'm not a big fan of poachers who spend 89mins of the game with their thumps up their asses and then sporadically show up for the occasional token goal.

Anyway, what tactic/lineup do you have in mind for the Pazzini-less fiore?

Here's mine....

Proposed Formation For Match Date: 09/09/06

This is the formation I propse for tonights match against Fiotentina.

The resoning for players I selected for defense is pretty resonable. Materazzi and Cordoba as central defenders (CD), Grosso ans a laft back (LB) and Zanetti as a right back (RB). The CD's will obviously command our defense and try to keep away any attacks. The LB and RB will aid a bit in defense but, be also as offensive as possible.

This Internazionale midfield is quite strange. It has never been tried before in its history in Serie A, maybe, because no players with such charachteristics were available. Viera the defensive midfielder (DM) will be the first obstacle an opponent must face before the defence. Solari and Stankovic are my wingers (W). I was pretty undecided on who to place as wingers, since Figo is taking the role of attacking midfielder or "trequartista". On match progress, Stankovic might take the place of Solari with Maicon taking the role of RW. Figo will try to help the attack with his point precise passes and excellent ball control.

The attack layout may seem quite strange. No, it is not a mistake I mad e when deseigning the board. As you know, Ibrahimovic is an attacker, not a striker, a role which Crespo's charachteristics fill brilliantly. Ibrahimovic is thus more of a support to Crespo, while attempting a shot when possible.

Unfortunately, I had to leave Internazionale's key player, Adriano, out of this formation. I feel that he is still out of form and that his role does not fit Ibrahimovic's stlyle of play. The duet Ibrahimovic-Crespo, according to me, is more efficient.

Match Trivia: Inter vs. FIorentina

Fiorentina v Inter, sixty years on...
Fiorentina and Inter have met on the opening day of a Serie A season on one previous occasion. On 22 September 1946 the two sides drew 3-3 in Florence. In order, the goals were scored by Azzarini (I), Caccia (I), Gritti (F), Badiali (F), Muci (I) and Marchetti (F). It went on to be a disappointing season for both teams, with Inter never above tenth place and Fiorentina escaping relegation by a point.

Fiorentina prolific at home
The last time Fiorentina failed to score at home was a 0-0 league draw with Atalanta on 15 May 2005. Since then the Viola have netted in 23 consecutive home matches, scoring a total of 54 goals.

Season openers since 2000
Inter have won four of their Serie A openers in the past five seasons, with victories against Perugia (4-1) at the San Siro in 2001/02, Torino (1-0) away in 2002/03, Modena (2-0) at home in 2003/04 and Treviso at the Meazza last year. The Nerazzurri drew 2-2 with Chievo in Verona in 2004/05. Inter's last defeat on the opening day of a top-flight season was on 1 October 2000, when a 2-1 loss to Reggina at the Granillo resulted in the sacking of Marcello Lippi.

Inter: ten-match conceding streak on the road
The Nerazzurri's last clean sheet in away matches was the goalless league draw at Livorno on 18 February 2006. Since then Inter have conceded goals in their last ten competitive away matches (Serie A, Coppa Italia & Champions League fixtures in 2005/06), letting in a total of thirteen.

Prandelli, Mancini and the Venezia exit
Cesare Prandelli has been replaced three times in his coaching career: at Lecce in 1997/98, Venezia in 2001/02, and Roma in 2004/05 when he left for personal reasons. At Venezia he was replaced just five matches into the domestic season when Fiorentina, then coached by Roberto Mancini, beat Prandelli's team 3-1 at the Franchi to keep the Arancioneroverdi bottom without a point.

Toldo set for 200th Inter appearance
Francesco Toldo returns to familiar territory for his 200th competitive match with Inter. The 34-year-old goalkeeper, who spent eight seasons in Florence, made his debut for Inter in a 4-1 home win against Perugia on 26 August 2001. Since joining the Nerazzurri, Toldo has collected 135 appearances in Serie A, 10 in Coppa Italia, 52 in European cups and 2 in other tournaments.

Jorgensen & goals against Toldo
Scorer of 42 goals in competitive games, Fiorentina's Danish forward Martin Jorgensen has beaten Toldo, Pagliuca and Sicignano more than anyone else, with three goals against each of the three keepers.

Materazzi, Stankovic, Samuel: a trio of September scorers
According to the statistics World Cup winner Marco Materazzi could be among the protagonists of Inter's opening match of the season in Florence. Scorer of 38 goals in professional leagues, the Azzurri defender counts September and October as his most prolific time of the year with six goals in either month. Also, Materazzi has put more goals past Fiorentina goalkeeper Frey (3, along with Turci) than any other custodian. If the form book is anything to go by, two other Inter players are among the likely scorers at the Artemio Franchi. Walter Samuel has a total of 13 goals in competitive matches for Italian clubs and has scored twice against Frey and Chimenti, while Dejan Stankovic, scorer of 50 goals in competitive games for Italian teams, has scored more in September and November (five goals in each month) than any other time of the year

Excellent writeup there, bro. But I can't see the picture of your formation......the problem could be on my end.
