Nah, Cahill to settle things with a brace.

uNITED get acused of not taking the FA Cup seriously when they play Forlan and Bojan Djordjic (Where'd he go to?) up front.

Is Roy Carroll still going to be in goal for it? I thought SAF said that Roy would be the keeper?

Brian McClair played a major part in Manchester United's glorious FA Cup past, winning the trophy three times. But as the current team prepare for another Final, he could also have a major part to play in their future.

Manchester United v Millwall
The FA Cup Final
Millennium Stadium, Cardiff
22 May 2004, 3pm

McClair will earn a cheer of his own if he is spotted by supporters at today's game because he enjoyed an illustrious 11-year spell with United and became an FA Cup talisman for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

But these days the Scottish international has taken up a new role as Manchester United's youth team coach, and is charged with finding the new Giggs, Scholes and Nevilles of the future.

It's the kind of continuity that characterises the way Manchester United work, and there is no question that McClair will earn instant respect from his young charges.

In a 'show us your medals' competition he should certainly come out on top. After all he won The FA Cup in 1990, when he was part of the side which needed a replay to beat Crystal Palace, and then again in 1994 and 1996.

McClair, who also won five league titles, was only named as a substitute for the 1994 Final against Chelsea, but will never forget coming off the bench to score during an emphatic 4-0 victory.

No wonder he has such a high regard for the competition, and although United have not enjoyed the best of seasons - having lost out in the Premiership to Arsenal and to Porto in the Champions League - McClair believes winning the FA Cup would more thanmake up for those disappointments.

He said: "Players relish the big games and they don’t come much bigger than The FA Cup Final.

"You know that all your friends and family are going to be at the game and you always want to be involved.

"One of my highlights had to be scoring against Chelsea in the 1994 Final. Although we won the game 4-0, the scoreline didn’t reflect the whole game because Chelsea played really well.

"It would be lovely if we could repeat the same kind of scoreline against Millwall."

Manchester United have already been installed as favourites to win today’s game by the bookmakers – something McClair thinks could work against his side.

United’s Premiership experience and wealth of international stars should in theory give them the upper hand over their First Division opponents.

But McClair insists Sir Alex Ferguson will be treating the game as if they were facing Arsenal or a Champions League clash and their approach will be no different in the run-up to the match.

McClair added: "It doesn’t concern me that we have been made favourites to win the game. People say we should win because we are near the top of the Premier League.

"But we will certainly approach the game the same as if we were facing a European game. Teams rise to the occasion and I’m sure it will be a good spectacle.

"This has been a marvellous achievement by Millwall and it will be a major boost for them that they have already qualified to play in Europe next season.

"There is no doubt United have had a great success of winning trophies over recent years and there is more desire and hunger to win even more honours.

"We are certainly use to the expectation which surrounds the club and most of the time that has spurred us on to become even better."

McClair has made a successful transition into management after being appointed as Manchester United’s youth team coach.

And although his priorities are now establishing United’s stars of the future, McClair will always have a special affiliation with the competition and will be relishing today’s showdown with Millwall at the Millennium Stadium.

McClair is one of the few players to have won the trophy on three separate occasions - so should know more than most what it takes to win the competition.

McClair said: "The FA Cup will always be special for me and it holds a lot of good memories. I really enjoyed all the times I played at Wembley for United in the final.

"It is such a fantastic occasion and one of the highlights of the footballing season. The nerves set in for all the players and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t get nervous before the game.

"Everyone is totally focused on the job in hand and you cannot wait for the game to start. The one thing aboutThe FA Cup Final is that you can never afford to take your eye off winning the game."

Although McClair would love to be sitting along Sir Alex Ferguson in the dugout, he will savour the atmosphere from the stands with the rest of the United youth squad.

McClair believes the whole experience can only benefit the youngsters and give them a taste of what could face them in the future.

He added: "It is very pleasing for me to see United back in The Final. It has been five years since I have been and only the second time I have been to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

"But it is a great experience for everyone and the whole of the youth team will be taken to the game.

"We will sit in the stands and really want to spur the lads on and savour the atmosphere. Lets hope it is a day to remember for United again."
