The Evolution of Pop

Is it just me or has Pop Music become better and better in recent years? Atleast In Europe that is, as I have no Idea what's going on in the US.
I remeber that I hardly ever listended to radio 4-5 years ago, while as of late I find it quite enjoyable. I like all the Timbaland and Timbo-esque stuff that's out there at the moment, then there's artists like Lilly Allen, Amy Winehouse, John Legend, Gym Class Heroes, Kanye, Rihanna etc... which all produce chart-compatible but still pretty good music.
I'm not the biggest Fan of the new Indie Stuff coming out, but heck, I still prefer listening to "Oh my God" by the Kaiser Chiefs than "Quit playin' Games with my Heart" by the Backstreet Boys. Also the new House Music coming out like David Guetta, Rune or Alex Gaudino is something I'm not turning off but louder in my Car.
Any Thoughts?

Pop music usually gets boring after listening to it two or three times, and i'm really tired of hearing those names you mentioned all the time, it's everywhere, i hear radio while i work, and they repeat those songs over and over and over, maybe they're not that bad, but after listening to them repeatedly i fell i'm with a mental diarrhea.

All you need to do is check the top 10 from a few years back, bands that didn't write their own music or play their own instruments.

Now, only the odd RnB song/artist still falls into that category.

Westlife have a lot to answer for.

Yea, some pop songs are actually very good, but most people get tired of them since their playing on the radio 24/7. This is a tough topic, as people have their oppinions.

But yeah, Pop has become better. It's no more this bubble gum pop ****, it's actually music.

Bring back the boybands, seriously. I'd rather listen to Flying Without Wings than anything by Scouting For Girls.

One thing worse than commercial/mainstream/pop-whatever it's the emo movement going on around.

But pop imo is the same as it was in the 90s ending, start of the 00s with the boysbands and Britney Spears stuff. And most of the pop is sh*t. 90% or something.
But we do have that poppy song that we secretly love. Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle...HELL YEAH! (H) :(

N*Sync - Bye Bye Bye is better than any pop song released since 2000.

I think it's because all of the bubblegum teeny boppers that were making music 7 years ago have grown up and the music is more mature now. That's pretty much the extent of it, I mean, how many 17 year olds are pop stars now? Back then, the young kids were the majority.

However, I have found that every girl still loves the boy band era, and you can score major points by saying "we need more boy bands"

EDIT: For example, in the Billboard Top 10 right now is High School Musical 2 Soundtrack and Hanna Montana Soundtrack. However, I have never heard any of those songs on the radio, and I listen to the pop station pretty exclusively.

The Hot 100 (singles) is probably a better gague here. The only teen even close to the top is Colbie Collat who I've never heard of and just assume she is young because of her picture. Then Sean Kingston at #21.

Yes, the EMO movement going around, care to elaborate? I'd like to see you try. Even amongst the vague group of "emos" themselves no one even knows what it is...

Do you mean Taking Back Sunday? Some would argue they're/they're not emo.*
Do you mean Sunny Day Real Estate? Some would argue they're/they're not emo.
Do you mean Hawthorne Heights? Some would argue they're/they're not emo.*
Do you mean Modest Mouse? Some would argue they're/they're not emo.
Do you mean New Found Glory? Some would argue they're/they're not emo.
Do you mean Dashboard Confessional? Some would argue they're/they're not emo.*

The only genre I can safely put an actual solid line to is...Top 40. And so are you saying so-called "emo" that makes the top 40 (aka THE MAINSTREAM) is better than other emo?

Besides, people were saying the exact same thing 25 years ago about punk.

We live in an ignorant world. Do you think a 15-year old pussy would care to know what "EMO" is? What they care is about them, how they look, having the hair like their favourite vocalist/guitarrist. It's a state of mind.

The emo movement clearly afects more adolescents, mainly because it is a very difficult phase. Many people in that age base their preferences around the mainstream/top 40, whatever you want to call it.

Besides, people were saying the exact same thing 25 years ago about punk.

And they still do. But less.

---

But that you told it's partially true. They are in the emo movement and they don't even know what that is. But it is clearly the mainstream that can make the emo movement grow, because we have millions of people basing their music taste around the top x, or top y, or whatever.

What annoys me the most is you saying "you hear a lot of weird stuff, some are EMO". Then they punch in the nose. Or they don't admit they listen to some emo stuff, or they don't know what it is.
