What's the difference, David Dein will still be in charge either way.

The magnificent Double D isn't in charge in the F.A. anymore he was rallied against when some spurs c*nt in the BBC lied about Arsenal and Bevereen. Instead the Man Utd dude is in charge.

Funny to see that the English papers are looking back on Sven as less of a complete moron now. Not that he has been redeemed in any way, but perhaps he will sleep better at nights knowing that not every single person in England hates him anymore :)

I still hate him. I'd rather see a monkey be put in charge than him again. Honestly, he lost us the World Cup with absurd selections, substitutions and a complete lack of passion.

Sven Goran B*llocksson.

It wasn't Sven who lost England the World Cup - it was the players incapability to play as a team and some players simply not being good enough.

England won't win a world cup in my lifetime. The whole attitude to football in England is ****ing awful. It's the wrong way round from both players and coaches, but for the players to change we'll need to get a change of coaching ethos. For England to ever have a chance of producing consistent world class or top class players we need a comeplete overhaul.

So, coaches, the three greatest countries for producing talent are Brazil, Argentina and the best at it, are Holland. I say they're the best because they have a tiny population yet produce a massive amount of talent, and do you know why all three create great players? Because they don't train kids as strikers, as defenders, as midfielders or as goalies... they train footballers. We don't, at a young age we'll see a kid who's good at defending or is good in the air and say, ok lets make him a centrehalf. That's fine if you want 1 good player out a 1000000. What we need to do is say, ok he's a great finisher, lets put him in defense. Let's put him in goal. Lets make him a footballer rather than a striker. Take Johan Cruijff, one of the greatest ever players, he could play probably anywhere on the pitch. He was the "total footballer" and his 1974 World Cup team was one of the greatest ever. Now look a the Brazilian WC winning teams, they decide where you play based on how many goals you score in a season. If it's 60 you're upfront if it's 40 it's midfield, if its 20 your defence and if it's none it's in goal for you. What this makes are defenders who can dribble, who can pull of 60 yard passes or goalies who can take 35 yard freekicks one end and save penalties in the other.

What England makes are one dimensional players, and everyone (and I myself have done this) complains when a right footer is played left wing, or a striker in midfield. For now, we'll have to deal with this, but at grassroot we have to encourage variation. Gerrard is unlucky right now, along with Rooney, because they are the only "total" footballers we have. Rooney can probably play anywhere outfield and do a good job, same with Gerrard. And Gerrard suffers in particular, he's forced at right wing where he's effective but not as much as in the centre. He's forced out due to the rigidness of Lampard. Also with coaches, certainly at grassroot, every team should be encouraged to put their best coach at U12, and their second best at U10, and when those players reach U14 and start playing in leagues, it's not the coaches job to win every match. It's the coaches job to get them to develop into footballers. Parents will complain and will argue with the coach, so get rid of them.

And what will the result of this be? You'll have a stronger, deeper England squad in 10 years time, and the league will be 5 times stronger. We won't have 4 teams that'll play football, and 16 who defend. You'll have 15 or 16 teams playing football, and it being effective, with promoted sides and one or two others defending all the time.

28 man squad for spain game:

Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Ben Foster (Manchester United, on loan at Watford), Chris Kirkland (Wigan).

Defenders: Gary Neville (Manchester United), Phil Neville (Everton), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Jonathan Woodgate (Real Madrid, on loan at Middlesbrough), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Micah Richards (Manchester City).

Midfield: Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Scott Parker (Newcastle), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Joey Barton (Manchester City), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Kieron Dyer (Newcastle).

Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Andrew Johnson (Everton).

SWP??? thats a freakin joke

Great laugh. I doubt that this guy McLaren will be finally enlightened by the idea not to call Lampard and Gerrard. Those guys play something like 60-70 games per season and then England suddenly expects to win some Euro/WC title, which is a pure joke with a squad consisting of a bunch of totally exhausted players(mostly the starting eleven). It was really funny to watch those guys playing in WC06 in Germany.. They hadn't power to breathe, and even so everybody expected England to win anything with a strategy like this..

Its not about being a regular or not. SWP is a better player than D.Bentley.

This might be one part of the solution. The other part might be to put in charge a coach, that doesn't call his main players for stupid friendlies, instead giving them a few days to rest. It's ridiculous to call players like these for games with Greece, Jamaica and others, that happend lately..

The other problem is, that the english coaches so far are always coaching upon names. For example, Michael Owen might be injured for something like 10 months, but if he is fit since 2 weeks before major tournament, the stupid coach will call him, and not some other player, who has been fit and ready for a long time and hasn't suffered an injury. Which is a great joke too. It's obvious that the players and not their names and the expectations upon them win games, but this is something that is not easy to be understood by some people in charge..

I'm sorry but what does SWP actually do? he gives the ball away, has no confidence and really is an absolute joke. you surely can't say he plays well for chelsea because he messes up all the time.

Wright Phillips a joke? tell me have you even seen him play you might have seen him one time he has been subbed on late and gave away possession a few times. why don't we go back to the recent game against Liverpool he was our best player on the field the whole team was not playing as usual but SWP absolutely ripped up the Liverpool defence and was unlucky to score. he is a very talented winger and one of the best players to come through Man City give him the recognition he deserves. and before you call any player a joke you have Rooney in your sig.

calling up regulars for friendlies is called preparations .... Owen has always been doing pretty good for England scoring a couple of goals... so i think it's preferable to call someone with experience and a good scoring record with England!! not like Eriksson did by calling up Walcott!!! lol

haha, yes i do watch chelsea and everyone in the EPL every week no worries.
and well it's not hard bein the only good player against liverpool because you just sucked against liverpool. but tell me, what does he actually do on a regular basis? he just messes up your attacks. its great to watch when he's playin for chelsea cos we always have a good laugh about it, but please not england.
and yes i do have rooney in my sig, a class player, which is more than you can say about SWP

You're damn right Walcott should have been called up for WC06, but for one reason only- because by the time the WC was about to start he was with exatcly 0 minutes playing time for England, but what was the greatest joke was, that he was with 0 mins playing time for Arsenal too.:mexican: It was totally ridiculous that he was in the squad, that's true.

I'm not defending the position of calling players like these. I'm saying, there are A LOT other players, that always stay in the shadow of the starting eleven, although they're quiet talanted. Players that, unlike Walcott, have played for England A LOT, but are not preferred to be called, for the sake of this "selecting by name", that i explained earlier with the Owen-example.
I gave Owen just as an example, don't bitch, pls.

The firendlies are preparations, that's true. However it's totally nonsence to "prepare" Lampard and Gerrard, they're well prepared anyhow, u can count on that. ;)
It's better to prepare alternative players, that will gain experience and won't miss their chances when it comes to important games on major tournaments, which was what happend to .. hm.. a bunch of guys.. starting for ex. with Darius VAsel, or.. all the guys that slipped their penalties in 90, 96 and 98, and 2004, and 2006
