The "Cristiano Ronaldo's future" saga thread.

Well we're nearly a season on from the fun and games of last summer and a lot of you thought that United fans relationship with Ronaldo would recover. Rumours are still swirling, the question has been asked and Ronaldo claims he's happy.

But as I said, the proof would be in his actions - so let's have a bit of a review of that shall we?

Well certainly for me I feel that his on field actions have proved that he simply believes he's above everyone.

From the manor of his goal celebrations - to the diving and throwing his arms about if someone has the temerity to tackle him. Recently his overall game seems to be more about flicks and tricks again than the end product. Of course moments of genius still come from him, but it is a very different Cristiano Ronaldo to the one who unquestionably was the best player in the world last season.

I still wouldn't be sorry to see him leave this summer - his antics are at times disgusting and sully the name of the club. It is a crying shame, because Cristiano is one of those players who simply has the gift of making a football do what he wants it to.

What has opened my eyes to how far backwards Cristiano has gone is Lionel Messi. Here is a phenomenally talented player who wastes no motion - he attacks and uses exactly the amount of skill he needs. You don't see him trying to humiliate players and showboat for the cameras - and you don't see him wandering around without the ball.

Last year I'd have told you that I would rather have Ronaldo than Messi - I think that's changed now. It appears to me Ronaldo is now putting the emphasis on making himself look good - rather than helping the team.

Of course, last night's goal was simply awesome - but there were still signs that he wasn't interested in getting his hands dirty and helping the team. The opposite of that is Wayne Rooney, who is both gifted and %100 committed to winning a game of football.

Here's a question: Would I prefer Rooney to Ronaldo? Yes. Because with Rooney you know he will sweat blood for your team - and still have the genius to win a match. Ronaldo has the genius, but where's the application.

Is it that his heart is in Madrid - Or is he simply now ego driven?

In any case, I'm not sure I want him in my team anymore, and I suspect a lot of United fans feel the same. Okay we can't get Messi, but a more direct (less talented perhaps) - team player I feel would be better than the sulking we've seen over the past months.

Wouldn't mind it, but after City's bid I'd be very suprised - and we'll be talking probably the full Ronaldo fee as well.

I was thinking more along the lines of Aaron Lennon or Ashley Young.
Young, quick direct players who know the league.

Ronaldo has reiterated that he wants to stay at United saying that its the "English clubs are dominating European football at present" and he thinks he's at the right club right now.

I think its quite unlikely now that he'll move at the end of the season, but you never know. :coffe-anim:

Huh, We all thought he will move last season. And he didn't.

If we think that he won't move this season. It will probably be foolish of us to think that way.

And as Ronaldo himself says, "You never know what will happen in the future."

D'you think United could get Sneijder plus money for Ronaldo? That would be an amazing deal ofr you IMO. But I assume any money from the deal would go towards the debt, so you'd prolly get a money-only deal?

No any sales of players goes into the transfer kitty - the debt is serviced by future revenue and income (prize money, gate money etc)

I don't think Sneijder wants to leave Madrid, I'd love to see him come but he seems very happy there (and afterall he IS showing loyalty to his club)

Vaart would probably be willing to go.

David Silva would probably be your cheapest option, considering Valencia's financial problems.

Like I say, I'd like to see Ashley Young or Aaron Lennon. I don't think any of the "megastar" player in the Ronaldo/Messi/Ribery class would be available. Plus they both know the league etc.

Remember Ronaldo wasn't a superstar when United bought him to replace Beckham, United tend to buy young players and then bring the best out of them.

Lennon does seem to blow hot and cold, he can be very average. Big fan of A. Young, it's criminal he he hasn't been a regular starter for England this season.

Of the two I'd certainly back Young more to make the step up to playing regularly well for a top team (a bit like Carrick in a way).

Vaart has the potential, and has shown that he can be as good if not better than Silva. I dunno why he's not being played, but it's hurting his international status as well.

Sneijder is better than Silva, no doubt about it. Just because they play for Madrid doesn't mean they're crap, as someone who spends as much time as yourself on footy, you should learn to appreciate players for their worth no matter where they play.

But Silva might still be more expensive. I think there were some teams trying to buy him last summer, but the fee was too big. Whereas Van der Vaart was sold to Madrid for what, 13million?

I don't think the EPL would suit Silva to be honest. That guy's quick, but I'm not sure if he's physical enough. Young/Ribery would be great signings IMO.

I think the Ronaldo saga is interesting lots of people - I must say though I hope it's resolved soon, I'm sick of the contrasting reports and quotes. Two weeks ago Ronaldo was as happy as a sandboy, he even joked about it whilst interviewing himself on Sky news (yes he interviewed himself! ) - now when asked its "About the future, we'll see"

For the love of God Cristiano, yes or no - it isn't brain surgery, just give us an answer.
