The Barclays Premiership Thread

dirion

Senior Squad

The kick-off to this years premiership is getting closer and closer, suddenly, when surfing through the forum I realised that there ain't no Barclays Premiership thread for this year, therefore; I decided to make one.

Discuss the matches, the transfers, the rumours, mainly everyting that's worth discussing in the Barclays Premiership.

Here are some info about the Premiership
(yes, it is copied, follow this link to learn more):

The FA Premier League (often referred to as the Barclays Premiership or just The Premiership in the UK and as the Barclays English Premier League or the English Premier League internationally) is a league competition for football clubs located at the top of the English football league system (above The Football League), making it England's primary football competition.

The Premier League formed in 1992, following the decision of clubs in the Football League First Division to break away from The Football League to take advantage of a lucrative television rights deal.

The Premier League is presently contested by twenty clubs each season, but in a total of fourteen seasons, the title has been won by only four teams: Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea and Manchester United. Of these, the most successful are Manchester United and Arsenal, who have won the title eight and three times respectively. The current Premier League champions are Chelsea, who won their second consecutive title in the 2005-06 season.

The Barclays Premiership have also this year an own PL, feel free to join it, here's a link to the PL: http://www.soccergaming.tv/showthread.php?t=134575

Chelsea will be EPL champions once again. Liverpool will finish 5th. Newcastle isnt going to be close to Europe next season if they dont get a striker, and no Luque and Milner are wingers. Sorry to say but Porstmouth will be close to relegation. Fulham will find themselves at mid-table. Tottenham do have a chance at 4th place. West Ham will be in Carling Cup final. Wigan will beat all epectations and once again. I can't rate the promoted teams yet but Reading do have a chance of staying up. Villa, along with Sheff Utd, and Watford are likely to be relegated. Everton will be in the upper half of the table and looking for UEFA Cup spot.

People thinking Arsenal are going to do well this season are in for a shock, unless they make major additions to their squad. Senderos is out injured and Sol Campbell is gone, so whos playing in the centre exactly, Toure and Cygan? Ashley Cole is most likely going to leave, which is only gonna leave them with a downgrade at left back, unless they splash out on Gabriel Heinze there aren't many good left backs around. They still haven't signed a direct replacement for Fabregas, who, lets face it, struggled at times last year in the premiership because of his physical state (like when he got pushed around against Bolton.) Although Rosicky is a decent signing, he isn't the same kind of player as Pires who is gone aswell, and Reyes is now crying because he wants to go to Real Madrid. So where is this confidence around Arsenal coming from? Because they fluked it to the champions league final after getting the easiest group in history, then facing a very weak Real Madrid side, and a Juventus that only won in Italy because they can fix games?

Arsenal were winning in the final for most of the match with 10 men. Nobody was going to stop Larsson in that form, nobody.

We have Djourou to play at centerback. He's cover for Toure, and Cygan is cover for Senderos.

Adebayor came over in January, and did well. He'll have a good season. He's tall, good with the ball at his feet, has a good header, and works well with Henry.

The direct replacement for Fabregas is Flamini. Who was nothing short of amazing last season, even if he was played way out of position.

Arsenal didn't get the least bit lucky last season. It's sour grapes on your part because you crashed out in a group featuring an underpowered Benfica side who despite injuries STILL managed to beat you.

Not sour grapes, its just obvious that a team that has only downgraded since last season (one where they barely managed 4th) is NEVER winning it, and are probably gonna come 4th/5th. Cygan will just get owned at centre back, and Djorou is only a backup at best until he gains experience. I think you meant the direct replacement for Vieira is Flamini....then what was "the replacement" doing last year when Arsenal were crap.

And about the sour grapes comment, why would I be jealous of a team, that my team can do this to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mT33joVqROo&search=rooney arsenal

Great tactic, but i reckon he could score less now that pires has left.

Could you tell me what happens if Thierry gets injured?

Cygan doesn't "get owned", he actually does well. Arsenal had a better record with Cygan starting than with Campbell starting. He's slow as hell, but he's sharp everywhere else. I remember him ****ting on United when he played at Lille.

We have our pick of Saha, Soljskaer, Smith and Rossi who can peform there. If not we could even play Ronaldo upfront, the thing is everybody at Man Utd chips in with the goals, Henry is doin it all at Arsenal. Rooney is massive for Man utd, but we can rely on more.

Oh shut it, I remember us putting 4 past you when Cygan started. Even John O'shea was up front on his own, he had about 10 minutes to chip Almunia with, Cygan hasn't started against Man Utd since. And if Bellion can do this to Senderos, imagine how crap Cygan must be to be on this bench for this guy, here's video evidence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYObMImC4zM&search=man utd arsenal

I can't see anyone winning it but Chelsea. It's just ridiculous how easy it will be for them.

Chelsea would win the EPL even if they started with a point deficit.
