The 'ball sticks to your feet' discussion

I am constantly being told that PES is a better game beacause the ball runs away from you when you run. So f*ck*ng what? What kind of player lets that happen in football?
In FIFA, you have to make that happen yourself, with a feather touch of 'O' or 'X' to wrong foot the other player. Nobody realised this, and by the time PES was out amongst the populace, FIFA didn't stand a chance of capturing those converted fans back. ISS concentrates on the aesthetics of the game, thus compromising the gaming challenge in the end.

long live FIFA
f**k PES

have you even played real football ever? when you run, the ball doesnt magically stick to your feet, maybe if you have superglue or something.. and when you sprint faster is easier for the ball to get away... but you only have 2 posts so you are just trying to star some s_hit and I am tired of this pointless argument of what game is better, just play the one you enjoy better and leave the rest of us in peace.

I agree in parts with Valioso.. In WE the players' interaction with the ball and with each other is just awesome, almost perfect, and the ball really goes away from you when you are sprinting in real football, it depends of the quality of the player who is sprinting.. I just don´t agree totally with the last sentence.. if we just played the game we prefered and left people alone, the forum wouldn´t exist (H) :)

Cheers

is it anytime a player runs that the ball goes away from his feet? that'll be a stupid player! :kader:

conversely, is it everytime a player runs that he has full control of the ball? thats too perfect! :kader:

so what will you prefer: you can never run with the ball or you can always run with the ball?

i want to run with the ball! :rockman:

I have only got '2 posts' cause I was only on this site for the first time the other day- what does it matter anyway?
Sorry if I mentioned the 'P' word, I didn't realise it was a big deal, and I agree each to their own, but I hear so many folk put FIFA down without realising how good it is because they never give it the attention it deserve.

Yes, PES is good because of the resons so many people say, but it is missing the one element FIFA has, and is for me the most crucial one. You just have to really play it to realise it

If you actually had played the game [WE/PES], you people wouldn't be saying something as stupid as some did in this thread.

Chaz and Dave

Do you two hold cyberhands or something?

I have played PES, and it's fun, but pale in comparison- for reasons described elsewhere. Piss off.

Can't belive you.

You said FIFA CAN wrong foot a player with a touch of a button and the ball does not always knock of ahead of you when dribbling...

Well, if you did play PES... then you should know the ball only runs ahead of you when you press R1.

And about wrong footing a defender, you could do that by pressing R2. And having played EVERY FIFA including the demo, the way you wrong foot an other player and how its executed in the game... PES/WE is FAR more realsitic.

Again, like I said somewhere else... Why would I lie about this??
If FIFA indeed felt more realistic in the aspects above...

Then, I WOULD say FIFA is better in those aspects....

One thing I highly praise FIFA2003 for is the 'make runs' button.

The 'Q' button is wut I mean.

Its a really nice feature EA has included since '99

Now you can other teamates and do 1-2's manually.

I acutally HATED the guts of FIFA2002's 'space bar 1-2'.
Cuz, once you've pressed the 1-2 button the ball ALWAYS HAVE TO go back to the player who started the 1-2.
And thats not ALWAYS the case in real football.

The 1-2 in PES/WE is somewhat in between FIFA2002 and FIFA2003. If you start a 1-2, the person who passed first will start making the run, while you have control of the player with the ball and have a choice to either pass it back, thru-pass it back, lob it back, thru-lob it back, OR NOT pass the ball back at all!!!
But the thing is... you HAVE to pass the ball to somebody to let some one make a run.
And that's why... how I could arguably say the 'Q' button in FIFA2003 is somewhat better than PES/WE.

sorry for trailing off the subject...

Hahahaha....

Geez go and play the game on the real field.
[I believe you actually did, but just makes me wonder for a second]

The thing about FIFA2002's 1-2 pass button.

Say you're really playing football outside somewhere, and you decide to start a 1-2 by passing the ball to a closeby teamate and start running forward, but HELL! a defender totally blocks the course of a possible 1-2 that's to be made.... In FIFA2002 the person who recieved the ball won't give SH#T!! even if you're blocked off by a defender, he will blatantly pass [and that ONLY a pass on the ground... no lob no thru pass..etc] it to you, only to result in a turn-over.

Its not the idea of what a 1-2 is..... its about how you make decisions on the field and how you would excute the next pass, when someone else decides to do 1-2. And considering that, I did not like the 1-2 of FIFA. Cuz you have no control of the person who recieved the 1-2 pass.

And again as much I hate this comparison, PES/WE does a better
job with this. Here, you start a 1-2, then the player runs up the field, now having control of the person who recieved the ball... you will see your teamate running up the field.. and NOW you THINK... judging the circumstances you would either complete a 1-2 by passing it back, lob it back, thru-pass it back etc... or just don't pass it back and do something else!!!

A 1-2 is complete when the person who recieved the ball passes the ball back to the initiater. In FIFA2002 the 1-2 is completed from pass ONE!!! and that does not make sense in real FOOTBALL!!!

Get it??

ok well 2 things.....

1) when you sprint on fifa 2003 (admittedly not 2002) the ball DOES roll away from you, out of control slightly, just like ISS, so what was that all about...

2) why use the 1-2 button anyway its far more skillful and rewarding to set one up yourself using accurately angled and powered passes which you can do yourself on both games...

...and why I prefer FIFA2003's Q button over the stupid 1-2 pass button of FIFA2002.

yep. the 1-2 of fifa 2002 was useless. u couldnt control it. and even if the return path of the pass was blocked by the opponent, there was nothing you could do to stop it. the Q is more useful.
