Can't believe Baptista rejected Arsenal like he did like I can't believe how much Wenger offered for him. :o

When is the Ajax tournament.

Rusi, you sexy bitch! How are yah? I think the tourney is due to start today?....or tomorrow....hmmm. All I know is that we don't have an allstar/worldclass defender for Europe and I've been saying this for the longest time. We're good enough for the EPL for a second or a third place finishing because of the disparity between the top 3-4 and the rest, but in Europe, it's a totally different story, man.

Yoss, but consider this for a second. How many world class defenders are actually AVAILABLE and not indispensible for their respective clubs? You can't buy world class players if their clubs don't want to bloody sell them.

Actually, how many world class, proven talent was available on the market regardless of position this transfer window?

Gilardino? He was never going to leave Italy.
Wright-Phillips? We can't compete with Chelsea, 18M would have been half our transfer budget. On one player.

Chelsea just had a 85M Euro bid for Shevchenko rejected. If Chelsea, of all teams, are having problems acquiring players I don't know how the hell we're going to get a Nesta or a Cannavaro.

If Baptista doesn't want to come, **** him. Look at someone else - if Chelsea drop their interest in Essien we should be looking at him.

well Arsenal was willing to spend a lot more than £18 million to get Baptista and he is 1 player.
The bid for Sheva never existed at all, like most bids connected to Chelsea this window, so thats just more media bull poop.
Essien?...are Arsenal willing to be held to ransom over this bloke as well then?Lyon want upwards of £30 million plus one player.Would Arsenal pay that?
I think Wengers gamble has not paid off.He was thinking that arsenal would not have a problem recruiting a player to relace Viera.A very dodgy gamble when you are dealing with the likes of people like Robhino and Baptista. Not having a dig here, but there is still a lot more kudos to be gained by playing for Barca or Real Madrid than for Arsenal. Its not all to do with money.
Wenger should have seen what was going to happen ,and he could have gone for Davids as a stop gap midfielder until a later date.He was on a free as well, but Arsene said he was not interested. Now he is at Spurs and that might just come back and bite Wenger on the Arse. :)

Lyon are driving the price up because it's Chelsea they're dealing with - they KNOW they can get more from Roman. If Chelsea become no longer interested, and Lyon want to sell Essien for a still reasonable price, I think they'd lower the price a little.

Son of a bitch! You're making sense and conveying a lot of good points......hmmm. You're definitely right, but I'm not talking about this summer transfer period when I speak of us needing to upgrade the defense. i've been saying this for years. Toure physically speaking is a stud, but on the technical/awareness aspect of the game he's still developing. Sol, another convert, has no redeemable qualities and is nothing but a blundering donkey. Ash is overly aggressive a lot of the times on his challenges, makes poor decisions because he gambles often on plays and is physically weak. Lauren? He's nothing but a joke. Vampires living in Florida get owned less than him, man. That leaves me with Senderos, right? He's the opposite of Toure in some sense in that he's not overly athletic, but he's got a solid understanding of the game. Fundamentally he's sound and should partner Toure this coming season. Donkeyboy should be sold off if possible, shop around for a suitable replacement (shouldn't be too easy) with his transfer, give hoyte a good run at thr RB position and steadily bring along Smith to help out the two CBs.

I mean seriously, this can't be all that hard if I've got Godly status on FManager with my heralded and brlliant managing of our club, you know?

The Ajax tournament starts Friday.

Arsenal isn't going to buy a defender that will be put in front of Senderos. That would just hinder his development. I can see Wenger sign someone just for depth(Christianval) but I don't expect him to sign a world class defender.

It's the same thing with the CM position. Wenger isn't going to put someone in their that would halt Fabregas' and Flamini's progress. Davids would have been too expensive(wages) so I think Wenger would sign some unknown or a youngster.

Im worried about a keeper..... Why does wenger have so much faith in lehman and almunia......those guys made awful dicisions last year and cost us some games..... By god I hope we get a decent keeper for the start of the season.......

ps- hey anyone here ordering the EPL package on direct tv...... I know they show only the ppv matches but I think it beats paying 20 bucks a game to watch the gunners play.......

or i can get setanta sports for 12 a month and watch CL games..... but id rather watch more arsenal games from the league.......

Arsenal win 1-0 against Ajax in the Amsterdam Tournament.

Hleb put in a through ball for Lupoli and he buried it in the right corner.

Finished 1-0 to Arsenal. Lupoli in the 86th minute. A good game even though scoreless for most of it. Arsenal were on top for the majority. Two best chances for Ajax one in the 1st minute, Sneijder missing a sitter and then one in the last minute Charisteas hitting the bar. Arsenal had countless, Ljungberg missed two easy chances, Henry causing trouble through out. Bable caused Lauren no end of problems... then Eboué came on and throughly owned Babel. Bentley came on and impressed. Only worry is about Senderos went off half time with an injury.

Real Madrid have agreed a €20 million (£13.8 million) fee, rising to €24.5 million for Sevilla striker Julio Baptista.

Sevilla confirmed they had accepted an offer for the Brazilian ace, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.

Baptista was interested in a move to the Premiership giants, but preferred to remain in Spain for the additional year required to secure an EU passport.

Sevilla could have been forced to accept a reduced offer for the 23-year-old's services next summer and have decided to cash in on their prized asset.

"The only logical decision was to sell him," club president Jose Maria del Nido told the club's official website.

"Julio's representatives made it clear the player wanted to leave and they explained the new Fifa regulations coming into force after July 1, 2006 that would affect the relations between clubs and players.
"So it was the obvious decision to let him go."

Baptista, who is expected to sign a five-year deal at El Santiago Bernabeu, will be unveiled by Real on Monday providing he passes a routine medical.
