Team/Player Ratings: Pandering to Masses

While we're on the subject of "realistic simulation," anyone here agree that Konami (and EA, for that matter) need to overhaul team and player ratings so they more accurately reflect real world goings-on?

Or, would more realistic ratings for the hallowed ManU, Real Madrid, etc., etc., be too shocking for consumers of footy games?

I gotta hand it to Buffon, who recently said, "Perhaps [Italy] is overrated."

Quite an understatement. The Italian NT hasn't won anything in 20 years. Totti successfully spit in Portugal but only scored his first NT goal in 17 months.

Roma? They're behind Sampdoria, Bologna, Palermo, Cagliari, Messina, etc., etc, in the standings. Cassano? Italians coined the term "Cassanate" for doing stupid things.

Milan? Thank god for Shev. Otherwise, the dream team Stam, Nesta, Maldini would be in trouble. So far, they've given up more goals than Verona, Palermo, Lazio, Udinese, etc., etc.

Italian superstars? Del Piero's too injured to matter these days and Vieri has completely forgotten how to score.

Real Madrid? They got some preety good players I hear. In 7 games the team has scored 5 goals. Only Numancia and Racing Santander, bottom two teams, have scored less goals in Spain. Last season wasn't exactly stellar either.

ManU? GF=9 GA=7. Crystal Palace, at the bottom of the standings, is not far behind with 8.

[And I'm not even mentioning Mutu, who single-handedly is keeping the world's cocaine supply's low, thus driving prices higher for addicts everywhere.]

We can go on and on with additional examples, but the real message is that -- fames and fortunes and talents and has beens -- are in a constant stat of flux in the footy world -- but you certainly can't tell by looking at the team/players ratings in the last few Konami/EA titles.

Hahaha, good one mate. You have a strong point there, but I also understand the politics of Konami (and EA's for that matter).
The try to rate the individual players as if they were on the peak of their form, which I actually like. I wouldn't be glad if Roberto Carlos would run at snail's speed an kick like little girl. Ok, Real hasn't had the best of times recently, but that doesn't mean the players are hopelesly absolete. The same goes everywhere. It's better to rate footballers accordingly to their talent not the particular time of season or their team's place in standings. Remember last (or before that) season when Barcelona started season catastrophicaly, but in the end almost won la Liga.
