Taj, you created this thread for the sole purpose of announcing that tomorrow is your birthday but you cleverly embedded it within another topic in addition to pretending to be a midget, non? (H)

You guys are surprisingly short.

I'm a hair under 6'1.

I don't really have trouble with weight, my metabolism is too damn fast for me to even gain weight. But I do know about 20-30 minutes of cardio a day, for four-five days a week burns a lot of fat. And as Shifty said, if you lift weights, you build muscles, which makes it easier to lose fat, maybe you won't necessarily lose weight, but you'll look much leaner, and healthier and you'll feel better.

And, god damn, you're one tall bastard, Bobby.

Shifty's correct as usual. the body burns fat at light-moderate levels of intensity for long durations, so a light jog for 30 minutes is the best thing to do. of course it's never easy starting off, so if you do 20 minutes before getting exhausted don't worry about it. at the start of summer I weighed around 180lb, then work slimmed me down although I never actually checked. once school started again I've been jogging 3-4 mornings a week depending on my schedule, doing some simple workouts at home (no weights? my remedy = 5kg boxes of Tide (H)). I just weighed myself and according to my screwy scale I'm hovering around 160 now, so if I can do it, ANYONE can :(

but like Shifty said, before you do any core workouts go for a few jogs, get your muscles and heart used to the exertion, melt a bit of fat (don't get excited if you lose 10 pounds in the first few workouts, that's water weight and you NEED that back). but don't get discouraged, starting out is always the hardest part, just stick to it and you'll be good (Y)

edit: oh and you seem to already have this covered, Taj, but don't eat when you're not hungry and don't snack on any junk food. helps a ton

In addition if you go grocery shopping, this is a new study too in fact, and you want food to snack on get some healthy stuff--pick up some fruit, carrots, other vegetables, etc. And with that when you get a little craving--well, what's on hand? Fruits, carrots, etc. It works. It's about convenience. If you have two bags of chips in your cupboard and you get a little hungry well, that's what's convenient. But if you stock yourself with good nutritious things to have on hand...you'll eat em.

Just to add on to that vegetable comment, celery is a negative calorie food. You burn calories just by eating celery, but it fills up your stomach. A lot of veggies that are mostly water are the same way, so keep that in mind for snacking.

Also, you should drink a lot of water, it's suggest that you drink an ounce of water for every pound you weigh, so if you weigh 180, that's somewhere around 5+ liters of water every day. You can start out slow, but that will keep your body healthy and if you drink cold water, your body has to heat it up to maintain the body temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, so that burns calories too.

also drink the water slowly. if you chug a litre of water, chances are your body wont have enough time to absorb it all at and you'll end up pissing 75% of it out. and cold water gets absorbed more slowly than warm water, so it'll stay in your system longer and keep you hydrated longer, unless you're sweating profusely in which warm water wouldn't be a bad idea. also what Shifty said about your body having to use energy simply to warm the water up to an acceptable temperature.

oh and yes, veggies are good. duh.

I don't know exactly how tall I am, but something like 168cm and I weight under 50kg, I think. But I'm only 16 years so it's not that bad I just need to grow a few centimetres and gain some muscles.

And Happy B-Day! I guess you already have all the koala pics in the world on your computer, so I won't bother posting any.

I lost 15 pounds over 10 weeks and had lots of fun doing it.

First of all my eating change dramatically. It was never anything serious like calculating how many calories, protein, calcium etc i take in, nothing serious like that. All i did is try to eat 2-3 fresh meals a day and have like 2-3 snacks a day. The big difference was that my meals where very separate, forexample if i was gonna eat chicken, then i would take chicken and take a bunch of vegetables and greens added to it and that would be a meal. For any other meal just subsitute chicken with whatever (potatoes, pasta, fish etc.) I would NEVER mix something like meat and pasta together, it would all be separate with veggies added to it. Some people say you are supposed to balance every meal with protein, calcium and carbs but i never did because if you mix them then it takes longer to digest. Now for snacks, i would have something like grapes, yogurt, apple, banana, watermelon, orange instead of like cookies or chocolate. Also i stopped eating white bread and was only eating either rye, multigrain or usually wholewheat bread. So you can see that i wasn't going anything serious on watching what i eat, just healthy food and all separate from one another to give it time to digest. For drinking, it would be orange juice, ice tea and lots of water, rarely rarely pop.

Now second part was the fitness part of it. This is where i actually had lots of fun. A lot of people go on treadmills or jogging outside for cardio, which gets really boring and tiring. What i did is i played lots and lots of soccer. Yes i would play 4-5 times a week ranging 2-5 hours each time in the evenings, but it was really fun because i was doing what i enjoy the most. And it wasn't even intense soccer, just regular pickup games where you run if you want to or walk if you need a bit of a break. Gym workouts, i did 3 workouts per week, they were really light, easy, just 4 different exercises that would work on as many body parts as possible and almost no ab workouts expect the ones integrated into regular weightlifting. Too me about 25-30 minutes of gym workout each time.

So i did these two things for about 10 weeks, the results are:
1. I'm much better at soccer
2. I'm fitter than ever
3. I feel lighter, better and more confident than ever.
4. I lost 15 pounds
5. 4-5 people told me i look different when they saw me in school after summer
6. bunch of people didn't even recognize me
7. And the main thing is that the small layers on hips that i had, are almost completely gone, my face is way skinnier than it used to be, muscles got much better outline and you can actually finally see my abs instead of just smooth stomach.

So you can see that i didn't go all hardcore into this, just change what i eat and played lots of soccer to lose all that weight, the benefits are definietly great. Oh and one main thing, take a dump as much as possible.

I ******* hate it when people even subtly suggest that losing weight is difficult. Just go for a run (/walk after reading ShiftyPowers's advice) everyday. You should try being a skinny **** and attempting to gain weight, that's where the real difficulty lies.

I'm 1.70m and 76 kg ... and yes, the "experts" say I need exercise ... and it's easy to say "tomorrow I'll go to the gym" ... but damn I'm too lazy to go to the gym and work out and all that crap :(

I'm in the middle. I could do to lose 3 to 5 kilos but right now it's not like i'm fat, and I really can't be bothered. I gym semi-regularly and it's cancelled out by eating too much junk... if I really wanted to I'd up the gym and drop the weight like I did earlier in the year.
