Sweepers?

Since in world football today if im not wrong tactics with sweepers arent used much as they were being used 10 years ago. Do you guys use sweepers and do you find them useful? I dont because ive tried it and it slows the teams tempo IMO. Anyone else?

yeah Sweeper has lost its popularity in recent years, Matthaias was the last TRUE sweeper. it seems that the offside trap is used a lot more often now.

I sometimes use a sweeper, but i dont think CM gives enough attention to the position, often its like playing with 10 men.

I used to love playing sweepers in my formation. I always brought Sammer he was a legend (H).

Now there aren't any decent sweepers about and very few who can play the position :(

Therefore, sweepers are no longer part of my formation

thats what i mean, SI dont seem to like the SW position, so its pretty much disappeared, Ayala is a decent SW.

I like using sweepers for defensive tactics. There was a great little sweeper in 01/02 - a Chillean called Reyes. I never looked for him in CM4. I find sweepers make me concede much less goals but tend to pull my whole formation backwards.

id agree with that Sir_Didier_Drogba, i feel that it effectivly takes an attacking player out of the game, meaning that you wont score as many goals.

Exactly, but it really solids up your defence. If you wanna go for Birmingham style 0-0 and 1-0 scorelines, it's a good idea but if you want more flamboyant Wolves style 4-3 wins then it's not.

Flamehawk's finally got something to be happy about.

Back on topic, I'm trying to think when was the last time I saw a team in the premiership in RL use the sweeper tactic, seems to have died out somewhat.
