Subtitles on DVDs

I was wondering if subtitles not showing up on dvds is a normal thing? I sometimes put subtitles on for my parents, and they usually do not show up on the screen. Is this due to the DVD or do I have to do something to make them show up? All I do is >go to languages > click on the language I want.

In other DVDs, they usually do show up but very irregularly. It only shows part of the whole sentence without completion.

Make sure the show subtitles thingy of your DVD playback program is checked.
Try other players as well if you cant figure things out with your current program.

How do I check that? My dvd player is a BOSE system. Let me give you an example. Like yesterday, I played "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" with spanish subtitles enable and it did work.

But my Taxi Driver (1999) collector's edition's spanish subtitles do not show up totally... they only show up like every 5 minutes but with incomplete phrases.

well... dunno then. All I can suggest in that case is make sure you know how to use it properly and do a firmware upgrade if possible

LOL, i figured out that the dvds' subtitles work on my computer. But they don't seem to work in the living room DVD player.

What does this mean?
