Sorry, just bought the game today. I already have about 300 points but i still cant figure out how to allocate the points to the staff. Everytime i click on the coach's face, a pop-up box just tells me wat that coach does, but i cant seem to give him any points or stars... pls tell me how to solve this problem...

you keep the points when you go to the next club, except you have to re-apply all the points the the staff.

I'd like to take this thread as an opportunity to see if anyone has figured out what exactly the staff upgrades do. Does a better defense coach improve the overall skill of your defenders, or does he improve the defensive characteristics of the entire squad? Does the fitness coach improve the stamina attribute, or just raise the fitness stat for each player before a match? Does the scouting coach allow you to better ascertain the stats of players you might buy (I think this is the case) or does he let you get better replacements when your guys retire? Finance appears to both get you better financial rewards for victories and to tilt tranfers more in your favor.

Sadly I have Gamecube, and it doesn't appear such a feature exists. If any kind person with a PC could sum it up it would be awesome.
Actually, it doesn't have to be on PC. For XBox, it's 'A', the 'select' option.
Striker Coach: Focused training for strikers. Each upgrade increases all attributes for strikers on your squad.
Midfielder Coach: Focused training for midfielders. Each upgrade increases all attributes for midfielders on your squad.
Defence Coach: Focused training for the defence. Each upgrade increases all attributes for defenders on your squad.
Goalkeeper Coach: Focused training for goalkeepers. Each upgrade increases all attributes for keepers on your squad.
Fitness Coach: Focused team training for conditioning. Each upgrade increases your rate of recovery after matches and helps rate of fatigue during a match.
Medical Staff: Affects the recovery time for injuries. Each upgrade increases recovery time for injured players on your squad.
Finance Department: Affects your transfer budget and the cost of players on the transfer market. Each upgrade increases team budget and improves your buying and selling power on the transfer market.
Scouting Staff: Affects the amount and quality of information available to you for players on other squads. Each upgrade increases the quality of skill injury scouting for players on the transfer market.
