Spanish Clasico: Real Madrid - Barcelona [P+R]

God damnit facenside, I wanted to do this thread. (6) Nice introduction.

----------

Aragorn made some valid points, and I must say that, for me, Madrid still isn't looking that great to be able to beat us. I mean, they thrashed a very weak Dynamo K. and Steaua, who fooled me by looking strong, but they just turned out to be below average. Getafe is not a serious team either, and Madrid lost. So basically, I expect us all to witness the true strength of both sides. Like Aragorn said, we played Werder, Sevilla, Chelsea and now we're playing Madrid. It's the hardest possible schedule, I'd say. I know we haven't been impressing lately, but we made the strongest start in La Liga in Rijkaard's era, and to be honest we didn't really disappoint in the CL. We drew with Werder, a strong team, and we lost to Chelsea, I'd say our biggest rival for the CL (again). That's not so bad. We got rid of both away games that were potential defeats (Germany and England) and we're still in a qualifying place. I consider that a job well done, especially since we have two home games against Chelsea and Werder, and a sure three points against Levski. I'm saying all this to prove that our form isn't as bad as it may seem. Don't forget we lost Eto'o, as well. I think we've done a good job so far, considering the effort we put in.
On the other hand, the world of Real Madrid can be so dynamic that one day Capello is being insulted and asked to leave, and then they beat a weak Steaua and they're fine. These things are misleading and I'm sure we still have the edge over Madrid. Ronaldinho showed last season that Madrid being the host isn't really an issue for Barcelona. It can almost become an advantage, which depends on the home fans. If Madrid play at their best, the fans will recognize it and support them throughout the match. However, if we're able to take control of the first part of the match, I think the crowd could get nervous and unhappy at the situation and start putting pressure on Real Madrid, and then we'll really have the upper hand. It depends on the situation, but I have faith in my team and I believe we'll win this game. We drew against Werder, and we didn't play very good. We beat Sevilla in what seemed like a referee's cut, and we lost to Chelsea, also not showing up. I almost forgot Valencia. I think we played too many big games without really overcoming the opponent.. maybe this is the game the players have been waiting for. It's the most intense match of the league and there isn't a better place for Barca to shine and show authority than against Madrid in the Bernabeu.
This would also further increase the gap...

I'm hoping to see this: Valdes, Sylvinho, Puyol, Thuram, Zambrotta, Xavi, Iniesta, Deco, Ronaldinho, Messi, Saviola.
I think we should be fine in defense as long as Gio doesn't play. Zambrotta is adapting each day, so I expect a better game than the one he had on Wednesday. I hope Puyol is ok. I want to see Thuram in this match, because I think he can really close the Madrid attack with his strength and stability.
After seeing Edmilson, it would be a joke if Iniesta doesn't play. Xavi is improving his form so a trio of IXD should play. I'd also put Saviola instead of Guddy because I want to see what he can really do in this team. Screw the goals in the US tour, I want to see him play in a more important match to know if we can count on him to score. I think Guddy hasn't shown enough to guarantee himself a place. I want to see Saviola and what he can offer.

Anyway, my prediction would be 2-3.

Please, let´s go to see the things with a logical viewpoint.

All people is thinking that Barça is not anymore like the last year, or that Madrid is ok now??.

The only victories from Madrid were with...let´s call, 2nd division teams, like Steaua Bucarest, Dynamo, etc...with all my respects for this teams, but, they are in another league. And all people claim.."hey man, Madrid is here"???? Please, when Madrid plays against medium or strong teams always fail, and this happend during this 2 or 3 past years, is a matter of the club itself. Against Lyon, a strong team, Madrid lossed and the same against a medium-low team as Getafe. I see a lot of deficiencies on this team. Do you think that Raúl is comming again for to score a few goals after more than 1 year without score??. Madrid has a real problem, and now more with the absence of Ronaldo. 2 ridiculous vistories and all people think that all is arranged?? I dont think so.

In the other hand, Barça. Barça had the more strong weekend that you can remember, first against the super Sevilla, after that against Chelsea and now against Madrid, is really hard to prepare weeks like this, without count the draw with the great Werder Bremen. Ok, so, take a look, Barça draw with Werder (a powerful team), win against Sevilla (Uefa Cup Champion) and lost with Chelsea (Premier League champion) (in my opinion Barça and Chelsea are the best teams on this moment in Europe, so, this results are normal, you will see the same macth here in Barcelona and the score will be the 1-0 too, they are very equal). So, what´s the balance....Madrid winning and loosing with low-medium teams or Barça winning-draw and only 1 lost against Powerfull teams??. So the answer is logical.

I cannot imagine Madrid winning Sevilla, drawing with Werder, and loosing or winning Chelsea, almost at this season. Is easy to say, all is ok!! we score 5 goals in the last macth!! Raúl again!!.......yes, but with "easy" teams.

Furthermore Barça had taken the mesure to Madrid, you only must to see the last years results.

So, for me, the vistory is clear for Barça, i dont worry about Madrid, im more worry about that crowd can be the 12 player, etc, but not by the team. So a 0-3 or 1-3 should be the final score, Ronaldinho, Messi and Deco for Barça. May be Sergio Ramos scoring the Madrid goal???? ahem....

Anyway, and besides of the clear rivalry things, i hope a very good macth on the Bernabeu for both teams, nice goals, and the most important thing, football!!!

Take care

IMO if we have the right attitude and teamwork we will put on a show, this is the first year for our team with Capello. I dont think anyone really was saying that it will be perfect from the start and the thing I see is improvement from our past games, now Capello needs to bulid on
that. Always fail against medium or strong teams in the past 2 or 3 years... what happened last season at the Nou Camp with the sh!t ref than? :D

Oh and btw its nice to see that you did not mention the shady ref against Sevilla ;) Seriously I am not trying to be an ass but that game was not so comfortable for you guys and if not for the bad refing than maybe...

Also it was Steaua at their home and it was after our loss to Getafe but the team played well and there was improvement, thats the most important thing for me. God I hope Raul tears you guys a new one, oh wait he already did that before.

Vedran-10 - Thats because people tend to push the panic button very early and say so and so needs to leave but that wont solve the problem. Capello is stubborn but thats the only thing it will solve if he is fired or leaves which is most likely not going to happen.

"Teams are figuring out how to play us"

I dont know how true is that, but this happened to Milan. Look at us now :(

I don't think that's the case.

1. We usually make a poor start to the season. This is actually Rijkaard's best start in Barca. Imagine that. And our seasons always had a great ending, so this one shouldn't be an exception.
2. We played really difficult opponents. Sevilla thrashed us because we had no real training prior to the game. Werder drew because we just seemed uninterested. Valencia have lately been a pain in the ass for us whenever we play them at home, so that draw shouldn't come as a surprise. Chelsea are, alongside Barca, the strongest team in Europe so losing to them in England in a match that isn't particulary important is not a disaster. At least we avenged the Supercup with a 3-1.
3. We will have a long and hard season. Three usual competitions plus the CWC. It's normal we're not playing at our maximum strength at the beginning of the season, we'd be worn out.
4. Guddy and Zambrotta have to settle in a bit more, Rijkaard needs to realize that he won't be able to avoid playing Saviola, and he has to start playing Thuram on a regular basis for us to have the strongest team possible.
5. We lost Eto'o, it's a big blow and the team needs time to acclimate. Besides, he'll be back in 4-5 months so he's not lost for the whole season.

I think this has been blown out of proportion. We actually have very good results, all things considered. No one is happy to see the team uninterested in a match, but hey, they know what they're doing as they've done it successfully for the past two seasons. We're the leaders in La Liga and we are still in a qualifying place in the CL, despite playing two hard away games against Werder and Chelsea. We easily could have dropped to 3rd, but we didn't. Now all we need to do is beat Werder at home and we're through.
I consider our situation to be very good, actually. With the exception of Eto'o. The players are not doing their 100%, they're saving their strength, and we are still in a good position result-wise.

Relax.

Like DT said i want to see Saviola play. He's always been good for us and he'd be more of a natural replacement for Eto'o than Guddy who looks a bit of the pace still. Also Iniesta from the start either in the DM position or instead of Deco who looked really bad against Chelsea and maybe move Marquez to DM and hopefully Ronaldinho will be back to his best to torment Sergio Ramos.

I have to admit, I'm not really nervous about this game. That's weird because I'm normally vibrating the whole week.

I guess we've never been this comfortable on the league table this early in the season.

Maybe if we had beaten u in the camp nou 3-0 u would feel deferently. :D

when i remember that game or see the footage of it makes me wanna cry or makes me really depressed, i remember when u beat us i didnt look at football or anything to do with football for like a month i was depressed for like a month too, i just hated that time, and i dont wanna feel that way ever again, thats prebably why iam so nervous about this match, but saying that ithink this is a totally deffrent real madrid to the one of last season, and i dont see us losing or being humiliated like last season.

Who would have thought that Ronaldinho can be such a cruel person? (H)

I'll tell you what, we'll beat you, but we won't humiliate you, and everybody's a winner (relatively speaking).

edit - bad news for Sergio Ramos. Ronaldinho said the Madrid match was another opportunity to demonstrate that he's fine. Poor Sergio will get victimized again.

Im agree that when your team wins macthes (nevermind vs who) is important to show it and motivate the team, but what i meant is that some press, people, tv, etc, can say things like Raúl is comming back, now is the time, etc..when this wins are againts teams that really dont help you to know the real balance of the team, and they are easy to win. Steaua is a low rival my friend, anyway if is in their home or here in the Bernabeu, totally diferent is play against teams like Chelsea, Valencia, etc....nevermind if is home or visitant, is always so difficult to win.

About Capello, well, i dont know, i think that the president putted him in a very difficult situation, you know, to arrange a 2 years broken team in 2 or 3 months.....is really difficult, is a project for to win titles now, and not for the future...well, i think that this is very difficult to do in football, i think that you need a very solid pilars to create o re-create a good team, and this brings time, equal to the Barça situation years ago...it needs 3 or 4 years to make it solid.

No, i dont mention the Sevilla macth ref, because im totally out of this theme, i mean, referees sucks, nevermind to who helps. Against Sevilla he helpep us, for me a draw with Sevilla would be the correct result, in other macthes they help to At.Madrid (Aguero "blue" hand), in others to Real, during years, and furthermore, not only spanish referees, did you saw the penalty to Messi in Stamford Bridge??.... Referees are really, really bad, but this is another point or post, i wonder why they dont use cameras aswell in american football. May be money and ref discussions are more important than football itself.

I know the balance of our team is not its not as good as yours but these games are not easy to predict. I dont expect us to control the game, thats not the way we will do it. You guys will have more control of the game but we should still be able to create our attack. So far our attack has been Guti, Reyes, and Robinho. The press is always going to say things but the important thing is for our players to not let it get to their heads, we might not have the same skills as you guys but with the right attitude we can make a good game, not to mention your defence is not the best when it has to face fast players ( Reyes and Robinho who better start ). BTW in my opinion Steaua is a midtable la liga team so its not a bad result but than again this is a special match where previous results dont matter so much.

Yes its a hard spot to be put in but thats what he ( Capello ) is good at. Making a organized (defensive) team is what he does. I dont expect us to be great but we are getting better which is good. Players still have to gel and the tactic still has to fit with the players. I want to see a lot of heart and determination in this match, nothing less. Not the halfass display I have seen oh so many times before. I wont argue about the Sevilla game but was just saying that it might have been a different result.

Anyway, hopefully its a good match with no mistakes that can change the game.

Thank you very much :) It's my first serious team thread and I've tried to be as impartial as possible.

IMO Barça are favourites right now, and Madrid are the ones to demostrate something. But I rely on Capello motivation techniques... If he can motivate our players to do a 90 minutes pressure all over the field, and speed up our attack (with Robinho and/or Reyes, as Socrates commented), we have a chance. The fans will be also very important, I hope they encourage the team all the time regardless of the result or the team performance.

Nice posting BTW guys, keep it up.
