no he's right its football not soccer...Also I hope U.S and Australia are drawn together and the Aussies beat the sh*t out of the U.S.

These types of comments are exactly why I will never respect the U.S. team.

Here the coach of the country, who is supposed to be setting an example, talking about how a side is easy to beat.

remember back in 96' the U.S. federation "By 2010 we will win the world cup".....arrogance, pride and the we're #1 mentality..... :kader:

They want to attract more fans, what's he supposed to say? "It's not worth watching us because we'll get knocked out in the group phase"?

Football is the (British) English word for the sport. It's calcio in Italian, nogomet in Croatian, fodbold in Danish and so on. Shut up and move on.

How about this?

"The U.S has a long history in the sport of soccer, we were in the semis of a world cup and we will return. Our goal is to win the world cup and we need every one's support to do it. With hard work it can be done.
slogan-----JOIN US!! WE ARE ON A MISSION!!!-------slogan

versus

"We will win the world cup in 2010"----slogan---don't tread on me---slogan, as if the U.S is the underdog here...Please footy in the U.S is one of the biggest industries complete with a farm system for the national team, not club teams. It is obvious what they're after, and there is nothing wrong with that. But I dislike the attitude they have. It reminds me of Jim Carrey trying to win an oscar.

Maybe we could understand you better if you knew how to speak English.

Too wordy.

War on Terror
War on Drugs
Axis of Evil
Project 2010

And the whole idea was that the US Soccer Federation set a goal for itself that by 2010 we will be able to field a team capable of winning the World Cup. They didn't say "We'll win the World Cup in 2010."

Oh FFS, how do you people manage to breathe?

You just don't get it, do you? Different countries have different names for the sport.

:boohoo:

And by the way, Jim Carrey has won two Golden Globes for acting. Find another analogy.

EDIT: doesnt it bother any of the americans that your coach has no ******* idea about world football... i mean ****, his "superstar" donovan couldnt even crack europe.... we've got the euro champion's number seven :boohoo: oh and the best coach in the world ..... maybe he could have included his own team in that list too :jambo:
Hey, at least the coach of the American team is actually an American. You Aussies needed a foreigner to help your ass qualify.

Australia will finish 4th. Deal with it.

I don't know if you've noticed or not, but Americans tend to not care what the rest of the world thinks about them.

Not only do I think we'd beat Uruguay (also in 2002 the year we went to the Quarter Finals)

Yes, that's right. 2-1 in... Washington? Can't remember. But I don't think we've ever played in the Centenario.

playing in the brilliant north american region, full of world superpowers such as guatemala and jamaica, with as many world cup representatives as south america gets REALLY makes for a difficult qualifying path :$ :boohoo:

Hey, we didn't choose who else would be in our confederation, or the route we'd have to take to make it to the World Cup. We've just taken the path put in front of us, and qualified for the Cup three straight times.

Now, Australia essentially has only had to win a two-leg playoff to qualify for the World Cup, yet they've managed to fuck that up more often than not. And, overcoming footballing giants like American Samoa and Fiji to get there must have been difficult as hell. Don't knock our competition when yours is even worse. Now, I'm sure you'll say that you still had a more difficult route to qualify for the Cup, because you had to play a South American team in a play-off. Well, last I checked, Mexico was one of the seeded teams for the upcoming WC draw, and our two matches with them have been crucial in deciding our qualifying campaign. So, essentially our campaigns have both involved playing a bunch of crap teams, and two games against a good team. Now, come back and talk to me when Australia has played in five straight World Cups, made the knockout round twice, and been a handball call away from possibly playing in the semi-finals. In other words, probably never.

With the exception of Rob, all you Aussie fans seem like men with small penises, trying to compensate for the fact that your team sucks, by defending it like crazy. I wasn't going to say anything degrading Australia's team, until you all started whining like little bitches when The Bruce said something that is true and it stung. He never said Australia was bad, just one of the weakest teams in the Cup. That's true. Now, go take some Midol and quit crying so much.
