Slow game speed problem

I posted this in the technical issues forum but there haven't been many replies (errr, only one actually and not a very helpful one at that :p) so, hopefully by posting it here I'll get a better response.

Recently, a mate of mine came round to my place and we ended up playing PES4 on my PS2. As soon as we had started the first match he commented that the game speed seemed to be so much slower than in his game but I didn't give it much thought. Later on in the week, I went round his place and played PES4 on his PS2 and was surprised to find that the game speed was, as he said, notably faster.

Thinking it was a problem with my PS2, I brought it round and connected it up to his TV and found that the game speed was fast like when we played on his console. So then I thought it might be the TV and to test this we connected my PS2 up to his TV and then my TV and compared the game speed. I found that on his 14 year old Matsui TV, the game ran much faster than on my year old Sony TV despite playing the game on the standard 50Hz setting on both TVs. The only difference between the TVs is that mine is only a small 20 inch one, whereas his is a 30 inch screen.

Does anyone know a reason for this difference in game speed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW the same memory card was used when we played the game on both his console and mine and I checked to make sure that the double speed option wasn't enabled. The same disc was also used on both PS2s.

I can guess it.
Either you have a burned copy or you have a laser-problem on your PS2.
Or both ;)
You can test it out: Did you bring your own copy when playing at your friends hous or was it his copy? If it was yours it means you may have a laserproblem at your own PS 2.
If it only happens with your own copy, your game need a lot of extra reads before it 'sees' what is on the tracks.
You can try cleaning your laser with those cleaning-CD's.
If that will not work try the original DVD of the game or the one of your friend in your PS 2.

So my conclusion is that you either have a laser to clean or you have a illegal copy which is not burned correctly.

Firstly, it's not a burned copy. Also, I bought the console and game together only a month a go from Currys, the high street store, so I very much doubt it's a laser problem. Anyway, I only noticed the increase in game speed when we connected up my PS2 or his PS2 (with my game) to his TV, so it's definitely something to do with my TV and not a problem with my PS2 or PES4 disc...
