How is it going to work? a knockout system with rounds?

More like a league. At the end of each matchday, we check the players' ratings and add them up. In the end of the tournament the team that has the highest accumulated score is the draft winner.

I think it's simple and easy enough for people follow, since there won't be much "maintenance" required apart from the eventual substitutions. Also, this way the participants won't lose interest in the competition because they won't exactly get knocked-out.

7 subs it is: 1 keeper, 2 defenders, 2 midfielders and 2 forwards.

For there to be a pecking order we must take the number of participants and somehow divide it by 24h, then set the order using one of those randomizer thingies. I'm ok with that...

We have 13 players so far, other people who want to join must do it before midnight tonight (GMT). That way I'll be able to begin setting up the selection thread, which must be done ASAP since the Draft will start within less than 30 hours.

We'll know the final squads on Monday, so there's little risk of that happening anyway.

No. This is why:

There'll be 12 selection rounds, 11 for the starters and 1 for the subs. This will have to start next Saturday or Sunday tops, so that can have 1 day dedicated to each selection round. In case we start Sunday, the last round (subs) will take place during the first matchday of the WC, so Saturday would be preferable.

If you pick someone who doesn't get picked before monday that's on you. There are dozens of players to pick before the final squads are set, I'd be shocked if anyone picks someone who doesn't go to Brazil.

I don't know about first come first serve based on 24 hr periods.

Someone could get the #1 pick (Messi or CR7) and the 21st pick and another person could get the 20th pick and the 40th pick. It would be a huge disadvantage. Whoever checks SG most would most likely have a big advantage.

Maybe we could make the # of participants smaller and give everyone like a 3hr or 6hr picking time slot and skip them if they miss it.

Now how do you propose we divide the 24h duration of the selection rounds considering there'll be 14 participants (I'm leaving a blank spot for an eventual late comer)?
Maybe a 1h30 window for each pick? That would take 21h, the remaining 3 hours will be useful to let us calmly set up the following selection round.

It'll work with the usual snake format btw, I believe this is consensual.

1h30 is fine IF everyone sends lists of picks.

Yeah but the selection will last 24h anyway, so there's really no rush. Whoever misses their 1h30 window gets skipped and then makes his pick in whenever he's back online. If someone misses the entire 24h window, tough luck because we're still moving on to the next round.

The 7 subs will be all picked in the 12th and last round. I've thought about us "diluting" the subs through the last 7 rounds, but that wouldn't be cool because then we'd have people selecting subs that would've been picked as starters for other teams.

We'll have time to figure out the best way to organize the subs round, so no worries.

We're starting Saturday, midnight GMT. That's roughly 25 hours from now.

TBH, it'd be hard to get a consensual time zone to do this. GMT is the most common, so let's go with that.
