Hi everyone,first post!
Well...i've been reading some interesting things on this thread. It's funny to see that no matter what the portuguese football achieves, that's always luck and diving tactics. It happened when Porto won the Champions League, when they won Uefa Cup and it's happening now.
So, if Greece outplayed Portugal and should have scored 3 goals in the first 20 mins, then the final score should have been 5-3 or so because we also had plenty of chances. Greece defended very well but only made one attack on entire 2nd half!
When Ovchinikov was sent off,Portugal was already winning (we scored on 6th minute) and we had also plenty of chances (including balls on the post). Russia made 4 shots and not even one was on goal. Against Spain, one more time we had plenty of chances, attacked all the game and played very well. It was nice because the Spanish media were already writting that it would be piece of cake. Of course that, suddenly, Switzerland and Croatia are football experts and Spain is a average team. I understand that..
Against England, we read the same things. Portugal was a very lucky side, our defence is crap... the important thing was to see who would England meet on the semi-final. One more time Portugal played well, was the only side trying to win and created several chances. And that, against England, which i considered to be one of the main favourites for the tournment. (sad that we meet so early in the competition, it should have been in the final)
About Rooney's missing, why so much talk about it?If England is such a great team (and i think it is) shouldn't it depend only in one player?'well...rooney is injuried so we can't play'? I am glad that no one in our squad has that status. Not even Figo. (by the way, 5 of 6 goals of Portugal were scored by substitutes).
And the dissallowed goal, i'm getting really tired of it...it's so clear. Why keep this discussion? It was offside (have a good look at it), Terry made a foul on Ricardo (GK can't be touched in his area) and Sol Campbell used Terry's back to jump!! So, i understand that some people were dissapointed with England being knocked out, but that play can't be an excuse! And about just winning in PK's, that's because not always the better team wins on the 90mins.
So, if SOME people like to think that Portugal is only winning because of luck, go ahead. The thing is, it's better for us. This way, we can only 'surprise' them
It's funny that spanish/english players said in both games that Portugal was better and deserved to win it.
Sorry about the long post, but it's really sad when some people says that knocking out Russia,Spain and England is just luck.
About the game against Holland, i think it's a 50-50 situation. Their side have great players, although some of their most influential players are not in a very good form. Robben is, IMO, their best player this tournment and i hope that Miguel isn't too much tired because he'll need to run a lot and avoid crosses (Ricardo is not so good with crossing). RVN is always dangerous but i fully trust Ricardo Carvalho. In my opinion the game will be decided in the midfield battle:Costinha/Maniche/Deco VS Seedorf/Davids/Cocu..
I'm also hoping in a good game by Figo/Ronaldo because i think that their right/left backs are their weaker point.
Anyway, im expecting a exciting game.
Força Portugal!!!
