Scoring goals in PES

OK i've just started to get into PES recently after not really having much of a go of it when I got it, but now i can defend pretty well and in my first Master League season with Lazio I finished with 3 draws and 11 losses LOL.

In my second season I finished 4th with 22 points - 6 wins 4 draws, 4 losses in an improved performance. I mostly eked out 1-0 wins and 0-0 draws but still had a good season. I find it tough to score goals though, entering my third season, I cant even get the 1-0 victories any more, despite having plenty of attacks. How do I improve my finishing skills?

What difficulty level? If you're new to PES/WE you shouldn't start at a high difficulty level.

If you're playing the PC version, it's tougher than the console versions.

I'm still not very good but have been improving gradually. I suggest you go into Regulate Condition of your ML and practice, practice, practice!
Just get feel of how hard or soft your shots and passes are with your controller. At first, my problem was shooting the ball 10 feet over the net all the time. You don't have to shoot that hard to be effective.

Practice Free Kicks, Corner Kicks, 1-2 passes, and Crosses to the center with your wingers by trying to knock it in goal via a header. And don't just automatically let the CPU choose your kicker for you on free kicks etc. Pause the game and select the kicker with the best accuracy.

Just go to training mode, choose the left (attacking side) for your controler, select free training and activate all benched players (but line them up correctly, you know - four defenders, four midfielders...) so you can play 11 vs 11 in free training. Also, I recommend you play at the highest level (six stars when you get enough PES points) so that you can improve quicker. Moving up from two or three stars is a long process. Just go straight to the highest difficulty.

A little off topic, but I felt like noting this:

I know it has to do with the fact that I'm not great player at this game, but I'm playing a Master League game against Caen, and whenever they score a goal I restart the game. It happens at differnet times, first few minutes, just after half time, or late in the game (75 min mark). I am convinced that this game is scripted in that they belted me in number of shots, but I came out with like two shots that were dead certainties to go in, but hit the bar both times. And its happened in two instances of the same match against Caen. So it could be scripted depneding on number of shots I reckon, since I seem to win alot when I'm dominating up front, and while that is common in real games of soccer, goals should be scored on their own merit, not on number of shots, if you understand me.

cheers

Not really. The number of shots doesn't really reflect much. And also don't take the shots number too seriously. Cause sometimes it' not always accurate. Also tell us what level you playing at.

This is scripted, I mean I'm not a great player at this game, but I worked hard and played a good match, went 1-0 and then they got an equaliser before half time. But I fought back and got it to 2-1 and had the game in the bag.

Then from the 80:00 min mark onwards they started attacking and right on the tick of stoppage time they fluked a goal out of nowhere. It's happened so many times despite my good defensive efforts.

I mean I love this game, but things like that just annoy me.

Play online then. :ewan:
Even online these things happen. I've played matches which saw my opponent scoring in injury time of the 90th minute, there was only 1 minute of injury time left. Then it was my kick off and pulled off some passes and dribbles before scoring an equaliser. It's fate. :p
Ofcourse games at the moment are scripted. All games are scripted in certain ways. But atleast WE/PES is not as bad as FIFA. And you're only playing on 3 stars, more will happen in 5/6 stars. :ewan: Just live with it. :)

The game cheats in ML mode at times to give the cpu team an advantage - at an attempt at increasing the difficulty. You just have to try to hold on while it goes into 'cheat mode'.

no,its not scripted. nothing in the game is scripted if you use super cancel to defend at any point; super cancel maneuver cancels out any linear movement of your player therefore making the possible script flow stop, if there is any to start with. Another thing, just defend better, you're letting Caen score on you at will? There's something not right about that, switch to manual switching mode, implement a line defense or sweeper defense, do man to man not zone and combine ur strafe and super cancel movements to where you anticipate the ball going to.

And if you're still having trouble try my gameplay tweak then tell me if its scripted or not; this game you have to actually work and have to actually have a gameplan before the match, not just get started and go,its not an arcade,it's an attempt at simulation.

Oh and to score more goals, i've figured out the best way to create chances is to have a strong tall forward ( Santa Cruz for example ) and base attacks off of him holding up the ball and letting your midfielders run towards him, some kind of attack with your striker holding up the ball from any angle is a good start to create some dangerous attacks.

One of the biggest drawback in PES is there is no 'player run' button like in fifa,Sometimes i just wish the the players without the ball would make more attacking runs, this would create so many oppurtunities, right now i just get frustrated when one of the players just stand nearby the player carrying the ball watching me trying to hold the ball while the cpu seems to be determined to take the ball off me and make me fall on my ass.

It doesnt matter if i have put the attacking direction arrows for the players in the formation menu,it seems to work only when i am attacking with the ball and not when i am trying to hold the ball.
Hope i see this feature in pes5 or pes6

nah there should not be a player run button, it makes the game predictable. The players should run by themselfs. Sometimes they do and sometimes not, depending on their attributes. Just like in real life. But i agree with you that the player runs are bad in the game, they should work on this. Sometimes i set two wingers, defence low, attacking arrows forward and they still just hang around the half way line.... :kader:

I agree, player runs can be a problem.

There's one that I've seen re-occur quite often now, even though I play with strikers who have a attacking arrows set to run forward only. I am making a break down the wing and notice a striker is ahead of me, making the run towards the box. As I run down the wing (and the screen scroll to follow my player), I notice out of the corner of my eye, and on the radar, that my striker has now changed direction and is sprinting back towards the half-way line. So I get to the byeline and fire a cross in, but there is no striker in the box to meet it. So I view the replay and follow the recalcitrant striker and he has wandered back to the centre circle for no reason.

I've gotten used to it happening so always keep an eye out for strikers making runs away from the box towards the centre circle and when I see it happen, I just have to hold the ball up or play a pass back down the pitch until the striker has decided to get his ass back into the penalty box.

If I am stuck one that 9 times out of 10 pays off is , down the wing about 2/3 yards from the byline I double tap the cross button to centre the ball and usually I get a goal.
