Used to find it very hard to brush off challenges from defenders until I discovered a way through. Maybe others have employed this method so i'm not gonna claim 'discovered' this but merely 'bumped' into it. When you're about to take a corner, as soon as you hit the kick button ( be it D on PC or whatever you use) back up your player away from his marker. Retreat away from the goal and stop close to the edge of the 18 box. As the ball is curled into the area dash towards goal and hit the D/shot/header button as you run towards it. Use players with good heading ability in the center. You'll win most of your air challenges and score loads of goals but you also have to direct your headers well. Its works for me and whenever I get a corner I feel I have a chance. Now to perfect my freekicks...
