English Football remains the most likely destination for the Uruguayan goalkeeper Fabian Carini, but no longer to the champions Arsenal but to Manchester United, in a negotiation which would include the transfer of Paul Scholes. Carini’s passage from Juventus to Arsenal was not finalized because the goalkeeper was requesting 25 thousand dollars per week, informs the press of the Britannic country.
The interest of Juventus in the English midfielder, Paul Scholes, of 27 years of age, and the bad relationship that exist between him and Alex Ferguson in recent times, would sum up to the necessity that Manchester United have for a new goalkeeper.
The first choice keeper for Manchester United, the French international Fabien Barthez, is in recuperation and his replacement, Roy Carroll, does not hold the confidence of Ferguson.
“We couldn’t reach an agreement, but I am sure that Carini will end up playing in the Premier League”, anticipated on Sunday Arsene Wenger.
According to London newspaper The Guardian, the transfer to Arsenal did not go thru because the Uruguayan international was requesting 25000 dollars weekly. Wegner and David Dein – vice-president of Arsenal – explained that the negotiations with Carini were also due to Carini having a contract with Juventus in which after 15 games played he would start to win 2.4 million dollars per season after deduction of taxes.
Arsenal thought in the young keeper as a successor to the legendary David Seaman, but the exorbitant demands of the Juventus player, made the transfer impossible.
The Guardian revealed that Carini’s agent, Paco Casal, had reduced his pretensions after accepting the payment of 1.6 million dollars per year for the young goalkeeper, a sum considerably larger than normally paid by a club of such young age and also in loan. Also, Casal had requested Arsenal take care of the flights Carini would have to make to Uruguay during the season.
Carini has not yet been registered as a player this season with Juventus. And unless he modifies his salary demands, “he could find himself without a club”, said an English newspaper.

Ok, if it doesn't make any sense, it's probably because I had to translate the damn thing.
