...always tapping. Wenger was rumored to have had illegal contact with Julio Baptista, but as with many things reported in a source like The Scum, I dismissed it as unsubstantiated. But with Chelesa tapping up everyone on planet earth, Wenger just couldnt be upstaged (6) Now, he himself has essentially alluded to it...

Wenger defends Baptista stance
Arsenal, Monday July 18 2005

Arsene Wenger has hit back at Sevilla after they accused him of illegally approaching star striker Julio Baptista.

The Spanish outfit were reportedly ready to take the matter to FIFA after claiming that Wenger had broken transfer rules by failing to get the go-ahead from them first.

But the Frenchman is adamant that he followed the correct procedures and and told the Times: "We approached Sevilla first.

"At some stage you have to speak to the player. You do it because you have to know if the player wants to join you."

"When you're close to ending negotiations with the club, you have to know if you have to put a million more in."

Sevilla have already turned down an Arsenal bid in the region of £14million for the Brazilian hitman.

But the Gunners may make a renewed approach as Baptista remains unwilling to commit his future to Sevilla and seems eager for a move to a bigger club

So is that an admission of guilt? Its obviously not as if this would be his first offense in this department. I just dont understand why a man who clearly has such an eye for talent needs to go stealing it like he has on occasion. This is why I couldnt really feel that bad about Chelsea getting convicted in Colegate, but I guess it was the arrogance of that, and the Arnsen thing, and Kenyon that makes people so mad...plus everyone hates the club already so I guess it was natural. I remember all of his rants and raves, how he was "disappointed" about colegate, but as the bible says, let he who is without guilt.... :jambo: (or something like that, I never really read it)

Anyway, where is the outrage here? Will there be an investigation? A fine? Or does it not matter when its Arsenal doing it?

Fillipower, if your response contains more smileys than words, dont bother, please.

Why would the English FA care about an English team tapping up a player from the Spanish league? :p
