Fortunately i know that.


Benfica is known worldwide as Benfica, i cant talk about Porto because the name doenst work to make an example. But Sporting... everyone calls Sporting de Lisboa or Sporting Lisbon.

Its like calling "Chelsea London" or " Barcelona Catalunya". Doesnt make sense to me. If in the forum i mentioned some os those 2 examples im sure someone would say something, because its Chelsea and Barcelona only. Sounds weird to me saying Benfica Lisboa.

Your examples make no sense.

Chelsea's full name is Chelsea Football Club. Barcelona's is Futbol Club Barcelona. And Benfica's is Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

If you want it to make sense then, its like calling Chelsea Club and Barcelona Club. its weird.

Filipower knows why its weird, but he just wanted to be picky so i dont need to discuss this more. If everyone decides to call Benfica Lisbon its up for yourselves to decide. I just pointed my view here. "Sport Lisboa" its part of the full name, but our club is known as Benfica only. in European competitions appears "Benfica", in Domestic competitions appears "Benfica".

I heard some people saying like 'Arsenal London' or 'Galatasaray Istanbul' etc when talking with some Germans. And they just says 'FC Porto' or 'FC Barcelona'... Yeah that's quite weird for a number of people but it doesn't matter of calling those, people can still understand what it means.

It's much better than some ****s saying 'Barcel' in our country instead of Barça as the abbreviation. :clapwap:

thanks coruja and master, about the name of the team 4 example in germany its called "benfica lissabon" and sporting is called "sporting lissabon", porto is "fc porto" and bayern is "fc bayern" while in italy 4 example we say only benfica, porto, bayern without the name of the city or the "fc".......:)

Wondering if you realize that the city FC Porto is from is called...Porto. Shocking, I know.

Its like it is with all names...i dont understand the discussion, if everybody understands, whats meant with the name. I am german and i just say Benfica. And a lot of germans say FC Bayern München or Bayern München.
