From what I understand the lawfirm Man Utd planned to hire said that they was no way they could put together a watertight transfer using the release clause, against Athletico's will, in only one day. They are the same lawyers that handled the Javi Martinez deal and that took a month to put together. Bilbao did not want to sell and would almost certainly have sued if anything had been done incorrectly.
