Rugby - Six Nations 2008

Anyone following the Six Nations this year? Just been watching the England v Wales game, so glad we stuffed the old enemy (26-19) after losing at half time, first win at HQ in 20 years! (H)

Ireland beat Italy 16-11, bit of a nervy finish for the Triple Crown holders. Scotland v France play tomorrow.

This is the most wide open tournament in years. Really surprised by both games......particularly the Ireland result.

Indeed - Ireland didn't play at all well, in fact they've not had some good results since the World Cup, Italy made it rather nervy for them in the last 10 minutes or so.

Scotland got beat 27-6 by France yesterday at Murrayfield. We'll be playing them next, we can't be too complacent after beating the Sais and would expect an onslaught from the Scots wanting to get back into the thick of things after that defeat.

But I'm hopeful that we can win. :)

It's really hard trying to make something of France....quite inconsistent. Anways, great performance by Wales...can't say France lost it, Wales definitely won it.

I'm predicting a period of "down-time" for Irish rugby....

The Irish were very disappointing, its mad to think that they had a bad World Cup just the same as we did, but whereas we picked ourselves up in such superb fashion, they continue to drop. It's amazing how we've gone from a laughing stock under Jenkins and World Cup embarassment, going out to Fiji in the group stage, to success under Gatland already. Now he wants us to take on the Springboks this year and win, a big ask but that would be a great achievement if we did though. Winning the Grand Slam in 2005 was a great achievement and some people called it a fluke, but this year with a number of players from that great team still in the ranks, and a few other faces, we've shown them all that it was no fluke this time.

As for France, they made a number of changes between the World Cup and the Six Nations and a number of people were writing off their chances, they'd put a decent performance in one week but a poor one the next (losing to the Sais for instance). We sure picked them off last Saturday, great second half performance and I knew as soon as we got the try that they'd give up hope having needed a 20 point cushion to win the tournament.

Looks like I'll need to buy another Grand Slam DVD later this year then :)
