Manchester United have released goalkeeper Roy Carroll.

The 27-year-old Northern Ireland international is one of eight players to be let go by United, with keeping colleague Ricardo also on his way out.

Carroll had regained his first-team place at United by the end of the season and played in the FA Cup final ahead of American Tim Howard.

Ramon Calliste, Ben Collett, Daniel Nardiello, David Poole, Lee Lawrence and Paul Tierney have also been let go.

Carroll joined the Red Devils in July 2001 from Wigan for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £2.5m.

He went on to make 70 appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson's side and has 16 caps for Northern Ireland.

Bit surprising really, especially seeing as he was playing in the FA Cup final. I didn't think he had that bad a season either, his mistakes were over-exajurated if you ask me. I think its pretty obvious that United will be buying a keeper in the new season.

No surprise to me that Carroll is set to go!

Daniel Nardiello, David Poole,and Paul Tierney is talented player's but maybe not the ones united want.

I've heard allot of rumours about Iker Casillas and thats about it really. Nobody else has been heavily linked with Man Utd, the only other person I can think of is Sebastian Frey

Why didnt they go for Reina. He seems to have been picked up by Liverpool unchallenged. if he's good enough to be scouted and signed by them you would have at least thought he would be on the Man Utd radar...

Quite surprised after recent news that he might be signing a new deal. He's a good shot stopper but he's made a couple major blunders.

Well the press has talked about Kameni a lot, hopefuly it's true.I would'nt mind Frey either. Also Antti Niemi. Cassillas wont play for United, never.

i was thinking that; wouldnt surprise me if Man Utd came in with a late offer, its unlikely that liverpool can afford to pay much for him :(

Then again i prefer Dudek, so go on Man Utd!!!

I remember reading about him in UNITED magazine 3 years ago. He sounded like a great talent, but that was three years ago and it doesnt look like he has improved that much.
