Open the players table in DBM 12; most player attributes, ratings, etc. are there. To change players' numbers and lineup positions, open the teamplayerlinks table. I always export the tables and edit in Excel. If you edit in the DBM 12 program itself, your edits don't always stick.

In the players table is a value called usercaneditname, and it's set to 0 for all players. Try setting that value to 1. You might be able to unlock the name-editing function in-game, I don't know... if that's what you're in fact wanting to do.

dont work i edit player names from db , but don't show in game
Editing names using DBM 12 works fine, I do it all the time. There are a few reasons why you wouldn't see your edits in-game; can't really help unless you clearly explain what you're doing.

when i edit playernames after that will i regenerate the db?
Like I said, don't edit in the DBM 12 program, it's buggy and doesn't always save your edits. Export the table(s), edit the table(s) using Excel or Notepad, import the table(s) back in, then save. Regenerating isn't necessary.

ok i'll try, i can't find first names of the players
Some tables are small and you can just use Notepad to edit them. The players table has too many values so you really do need Excel for that. But the first names are definitely there and clearly marked, just takes a while finding everything.

You need to load the db up in DBM first though, and can check to see which numerical name code stands for which name.

dont work again - i edit Pareiko and in game is again Pareiko
Could be because you didn't remove your old Squads save that was already in your documents folder, and the game loaded that instead. Or you need to delete the two db files from the data0.big file using FM 12 or whatever.

i cant find the first name
You can't see it in the players table? It's called firstname and it's around the 30th column from the beginning in Excel. Column AL or so if that helps.

Open the players table in DBM 12; click on each ID number and you can see what name goes with what number.

No problem. Yeah, it occured to me a minute ago you probably want to create your own names for new players, and not use the ones in-game. That's why we need CM 12 to work, a lot of editing can't be done without it.

At the risk of asking a question that's already been answered, how do I export the database so that I can view and edit it in excel? When I export the table it gets exported as a .txt file, and when I open it an excel it's all muddled and impossible to work out what table is what, it's just a big pile of un-formatted data. Any ideas?

Right-click on the table you want to open, select Open With then Choose Program, and choose Excel. It should open in Excel with no problems, and all values in proper columns.
