I had one done today :(. Thank god for letting man invent anastetics or I would of died although now I can't really feel half my face and I can't chew on that side for a week or so. Has anybody else had one done before and what did you think of it? I'm just pissed that I had to inherit my mom's teeth, her family has a history of soft and vulnerable teeth which damage easily and I had to be the one that got them :mad:. But what a procedure I'm just glad I got it over with.

I'll be honest, I've never had a root canal done, but I did have 4 teeth pulled once, I was 15 and they were baby teeth that were no where near falling out, so they had to be pulled for my brace. Anestetic was my friend too, but my face was numb even when I woke up the next day

i never had one,i know many of them that had one, they cut ur nerve that is connected to ur bad teeth so that u can't feel the pain that u been have been having from that bad teeth.

And they insert a ton of needles so that they can act as the artificial nerves, i swear for most of the procedure i had my eyes closed because i didnt wanna see the s*it they were putting in my mouth. And yeah my face is numb as hell and I haven't eaten anything at all today :(.

I had a root canal about 3-4 years ago.. in all honesty, the pain I had in my tooth before the root canal was 100 worse than the procedure itself. Although, I definately don't want another one anytime soon, what I really hated about it was just how long it took (felt like I was in the dentist's chair for hours) and the general discomfort of having that awful rubber dam thingy on and all the high pitched drilling and scraping noises, blaahh..

The thing with me is that I only had the pain for a little bit when I originally messed up my tooth (hard food incident) then once I got used to it it went away and I didn't feel anything but I finally went to the dentist because the tooth was starting to look worse and got the damn thing done. The procedure didn't hurt that much because they numbed me twice because the first time well let's just say that once he started I felt it and it wasnt good. The worse thing about it is the smells that come once he is done and he does the little finishing on the new fixed tooth, god that smells awful and also the gagging is a pain.

PS: does the color change or does the cement stuff stay gray?

It stays grey for lifelong, but they have this expensive cement which has the same color as the teeth, so u dont see it.

Never had a root canal, but I've had a tooth (molar) pulled out without any anestetic. I swallowed so much blood during the procedure, I spent half of the day vomiting it out.

my mom had to have 2 root canals done. this was back in the home country, and she had it done without any aneshtetic or drugs of any kind. imagine that kind of pain. i don't say **** to her now if she can handle that she can still whoop my ass. i seriously can't immagine drilling your mouth without anything... take a ******* advil or something for crissake... crazy bitch

Dude!! They insert needles straight into your f*cking gum and she did that without anestetics :eek:

yea she's one of those slavic women who have been through war so i dunno a root canal isn't that big for her i guess. i remember going when my friend had it, and man that **** looks so painfull i can't even describe it. and she had 2 of them... :|

I just finished eating, it felt so good I hadn't eaten anything all day except for two extra strenght tylenols and a bottle of water :(. From about 5pm to 10pm I just slept because I was so dizzy I could barely walk and the damn anestetics in my mouth didn't allow me to eat but when I woke up I touched my face and I actually felt it :D so the frist thing I did was run to the fridge and make myself 2 rotisory chicken sandwiches (H)

Well, the nerve was completely necrotic (dead and in advanced state of degradation) so I couldn't feel anything anyway. :p

I had to have all my wisdom teeth out because they were impacted. That required a general anaesthetic because they are right at the back of the mouth and were huge. Also I think they had to go into the jaw in one place to get the whole thing out. I couldn't eat anything except porridge and rice pudding for days. Horrible.

A major or really deep cavity that's too big for a regular drill/filling procedure. A root canal is more or less them hollowing out your tooth and filling it up with that cement material. Essentially you're left with a dead tooth that looks natural on the outside, but inside it's all filling, no live nerves.

I hate dentists and anyone who has anything to do with teeth. When i go, or I have my braces checked on, I always get the bitch you just found out her husband cheated on her with her cat or something. They always just pound away completely oblivious to my screams. :(


No lie, I went for a normal check up, the entire time I was there the lady who was cleaning my teath looked down a total of 3 times, she was talking to the other nurses about how her husband forgot her birthday. I spit out a lot of blood that day....but at least I knew my gums were clean. :(
