Ronaldo still has a long way to go

that video is a bit old, it was one of the first training sessions he had with Corinthians. Not that he's in much better shape now, but he has improved a bit.

he just recovered from a serious injury its gonna take quite a bit of him to get back in shape/be able to run/jog at full speed.

I dont know. I think he can be good if he remains healthy. Shame all the injuries. Imagine his resume had he not been seriously injured. As it stands he is one of the best alltime strikers in history. At his prime he was amonster. Unstoppable.

I'm afraid that now, when you say Ronaldo, you think more at Cristiano Ronaldo. That's quite sad ...

Thats cause hes the flavor of the year. 1 great year and several other good years. I think when all is said and done they will look at the other Ronaldo, the world cup winner, etc. and be considered as arguably the best striker to ever play.

In case any of you have short memories. The guy can make a very good case for being the best striker ever. The only thing that stopped him were injuries. Even later on, when he was in Madrid and was fat, he could still score like mad.

(Stats from Wiki - so probably wrong :D)
Cruzeiro - 34 goals in 32 apps
PSV - 42 goals in 46 apps
Barcelona - 34 goals in 37 apps
Inter - 49 goals in 68 apps
Madrid - 83 goals in 127 apps
Milan - 9 goals in 20 apps

Look at that strike rate in some of the toughest leagues in the world. I wonder if people forget what he could do...

This is him at his absolute best...his time at Barcelona was sublime.

What? Best striker ever? No way, dude. Gerd Muller for sure.
And that's coming from a Dutchie...

Oh and I think nobody here is disputing that Ronaldo was a very good player in his hayday, a shame though it's ended so quickly and suddenly. There's still only one Ronaldo for me that's for sure and that's the Brazilian one... :)

Hence why I said he could make a "very good case" and "the only thing that stopped him were injuries" ;) You need to read the whole post and not just a couple of the words.

There's no questioning that Gerd probably IS the best striker ever, for both his longevity, his prolificness and his trophy case.

I dont understand how people can speak of a lack of motivation or will to play on behalf on Ronaldo. If anything I see his will to play & love for the game as remarkable!

A man who would go through that much hard work to come back after a career threatening injury THAT many times has to have a real love for this game.

Keeping in mind he has already won almost everything there is to win & its not like he needs the money ?

I dont think some people know just how hard it is & how much dedication is involved in getting fit again after an injury like that ..

a case of "definitely maybe", eh? (H)

gerd müller's goal numbers are great, no doubt ... but the most i've seen of him are in extended highlights ... ronaldo, though, I watched every match I could (quite a lot), and I regard him as the best ever that I've seen ... no need to generalize it further for me (coz i prescribe to the theory of relativity) ...
LOL

Well, you know what they say about opinions...(H)

That's what I was looking for. For someone like me who has his SG name as an honor to ronni, it would be dissapoiting for me not to see him again on the pitch even if it's with an overweight body. I love you gordinho.

Just wondering, when Ronaldo moved to Madrid, I didn't follow football too closely as they showed no matches here on national tv. I was a Barca-fan at the time already, (I think I've been since a trip to Barcelona when I was 4-5.) but I didn't even know then that Ronaldo had played for us.

How did Cules take it? I guess Carlos can atleast talk of how he felt.

As mentioned, I couldn't really follow the game too much, pretty much just the international tournaments (1998 France is one of my greatest childhood memories). We also had a video of the 1994 World Cup which I have wathced over and over again. Before seeing it I hadn't even heard of many of those players. I still remember how I stood in misbelief watching the likes of Gerd Müller. Also, the wondergoal by some Saudi-Arabian (can't remember his name, for some reason (H)) springs to mind. I better find that video. (H)

Pretty much anyone who played in Barca going to Madrid, even if they went somewhere else first, is going to be seen as a traitor.
