I can try...
I was the best after Pelé, says Romário
Nearing the retirement, Romário is beginning to talk as an ex-player. Today, in an interview in which he talked about his international goodbye, the striker warranted he was the best of the Brazilian National Team since Pelé.
"After 1970, I can consider myself the best. I have no doubts about it", said the athlete, who still has contract with Fluminense but isn't playing due to an injury.
Romário scheduled for November 10, at the Los Angeles Coliseum, the international goodbye match. In one side there will be his 1994 World Cup teammates and in the other Mexico, that will pay a tribute to the ex-goalkeeper Jorge Campos. The match's stadium is the same where Brazil won the World Cup 10 years ago.
"I contacted some of the players that played in '94 and everyone accepted. Some of them, that are still playing, like Mauro Silva and Zinho, need an OK from their teams", said the striker, hoping he can count on the presence of the coach Carlos Alberto Parreira too.
"He had been already invited and said he'll do the possible and impossible to be there. Everything will depend on how his agenda is gonna be because of the National Team", he explained.
About his definitive soccer goodbye, Romário warned he expects to play one more season before stopping. "I intend to acomplish my contract with Fluminense by december and, if possible, to help the team to qualify for the Libertadores 2005. I'll see what I'll do later, if I continue here or go to other team to play my last year", he declared.
