I bought the PC version of FIFA 08 again this, just as I have since 2000. I also made the decision shortly thereafter to buy an Xbox 360 elite, given that my computer is aging and the upgrade costs for new video card, etc. are roughly equivalent to a gaming console.
Anyway, I got the Xbox yesterday and a new copy of FIFA 08 as well. The comparson current gen vs. next gen, is quite frankly, astonishing. It's not like comparing flying economy versus flying first class, it's like flying economy versus flying your own private jet.
Literally everything is vastly superior. The atmosphere is robust, the graphics droolworthy, the commentary is much better and the gameplay - the crucial part of the whole experience - is so much better. The way tackling occurs, the weight of the ball, the AI ... it is, my humble opinion, the best edition of FIFA yet by a vast measure. Frankly, the old current gen for the PC is just FIFA 07 Lite. I'm glad I made the investment but frankly it saddens me that loyal PCers are getting such an inferior product. I hope the PC community does not get left behind in the future.
I'm gonna miss the patches and gameplay mods, but the bottom line is the next gen on the Xbox is as close to a true football experience as you can get. I don't play any games save for FIFA, so its a lot to spend, but hey ... you spend $600 and you get 2,000 hours of entertainment at a rate of 30 cents an hour. Renting or going to a movie costs between $3-9 hour. Maybe I'm just trying to justify the cost ...
Anyway, if you aren't going next gen, tell Santa you want to. Or demand that EA produce a next gen for PC next year.
