Ref admits Jenas error

red card should have stood, it was a dangerous tackle he could have ended gilberto's career in that tackle, shouldnt've put in the second leg. ref given into peer pressure :kader:

In my view, it was a dangerous though there was no malice. Many players careers have been ended due to normal tackles, just because someone is in danger during the tackle, doesn't mean it needs to be punished. Look at Nills when he was at Villa.

Fair play to the ref for the decision though

its from behind and if you seen the photos on GettyImages.com of gilberto silva's left leg being sandwiched by Jenas tackle and bending ackwardly, you would have to agree that a card of any sort would do.... as far as the red card issued, any tackle from behind has the right to be a reckless challenge, thus can be a cardable with a ejection from that player.
Spot on.

Doesn't matter what the severity of the tackle when it is from behind. If you can see the letters on your opponent's back, don't try and tackle him. In this case you can understand why the decision was made in the heat of the moment. Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone admits when they do so.

If Jenas makes any impact for Newcastle in the next three matches, Newcastle fans can thank the official for the downgrade.

As an aside...someone mentioned that the referee should have downgraded at halftime. I've never heard of that...is that a Premiership-only sort of rule? Can a referee actaully take back a red card in the middle of a match and bring a player back onto the pitch? The LOTG don't allow temporary suspensions from a match, so i don't understand why that would be alright.

that was a viscious tackle and could have led to a broken leg, or a repeat of the Cisse/Larsson injuries.

I dont know why the ref is apologizing, that was a clear red card in my books.

are you insane?

Lets say Gilberto wasnt so lucky, and his shin bone snapped in half, would you still think the red wasnt deserved?

If theyre supposed to give straight reds studs up challenges, than I dont see why they shouldnt do the same for these 'scissor tackles'.

very true, cisse didnt break his leg due to a scissor challenge either. It wasnt a fair tackle, but it wasnt a serious one, he just got his legs taken out, that sh1t happens all the time, damn you guys are acting like a bunch of women. Fair play to jenas for getting stuck in, it wasnt that bad of a tackle, just caught gilberto from the wrong angle.

Exactly! Football is a contact sport, accidents happen. I don't think it was a scissor challenge either, otherwise Jenas would of really whacked Gilberto. The only reason Gilberto did get his leg caught underneath because Jenas didn't pull his leg round.

The guy that broke Cisses shin didn't get sent off, and I know it was a tackle, but the shin means nothing... like someone else already said, people get injured from just normal tackles.

If only they could do the same about goals. Like that blatant un-offside in the Villa-Bolton match I watched on saturday. Sickening, truly sickening. :nape:
