If you read the manual, lol, they are there to tell you how your team is doing. I don't remember which order they are in, but it works like this:

3 Dots- Team is in excellent shape, most players are in a good physical and state of mind, moral is high. Meaning you have a good chemistry. (Also in Manual)

2 Dots- They are ok, not excellent, but doing good. Moral is normal.

1 Dot- Bad, your team is in the worse state ever. Your team's moral is very low. You usually get this when you are scored too early or too much, also when there is a penalty or if you made an own goal.

I usually stay between 2-3 dots, which is good. Rarely one. Also, when you have 3 Dots, you have a strong team, make good of use of this (Since it only lasts a while) by attacking hard/constant attack.

And that is the explination of the Dots. I dunno what the colors are for, I think it's: Red-Bad, Yellow-Good, Green-Excellent.
