Recently acquired XP and want to avoid the Blaster Worm.

Hi yall.:p

I recently got a new PC. We are yet to connect to the internet (yes, crappy 56k) but would like to avoid the Blaster Worm as the new PC has XP. Any thoughts on how to avoid it. Should we immediately go to microsoft and download new windows, go to norton Liveupdate? Please help.


BTW. New PC specs -

512mb RAM
50GB Harddrive
P4
19 inch monitor
3.1 ghz processor
Nvidia Geforce 5600x graphics card.

Rips apart my old 733, P3, 5.56 gb 192 mb RAm laptop.:p

I jsut connected to internet with win xp sp1 and i didn't even make it on pressing the IE button! It was there!! I downloaded the patch of microsoft and cleared with norton 2004.

Make sure you keep updating XP.

I keep mine updated with all of the Windows updates and I never got the blaster virus. UPdating can also help you avoid any new viruses as well.

NOt particularly biased either way. Just that it works for me so I dont see any need for me to change.

Trust me I certainly dont preach Microsoft. Most of the time they piss me off like everyone else it's just that this worked so I mentioned it.

Thankyou all. I have 56k, so will I be unable to fully download before it strikes? Will I need to download winzip or winrar on the new PC to extract the fix, or do you not need an extraction program.
