Real transfer targets too expensive

Real Madrid sports chief Jorge Valdano has admitted that the big spending Primera Liga club may not be able to afford transfer targets Cristian Chivu and Walter Samuel.

Over the past three season's the Madrid side have spent £37m on Luis Figo, £45.6m on Zinedine Zidane - smashing the world record on both occasions - and £20m on current FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldo, leaving the club short of cash for Ajax skipper Chivu and Roma defender Samuel.

'Who would we sign? Samuel? Chivu? Both are great players, but their prices probably rule us out,' Valdano said.

'In any case, the young players here will always have first option on making the step up to the first team.'

Romanian international Chivu, also courting interest from Inter Milan, has been in excellent form in the heart of Ajax's defence this season and has helped the club stay on course for a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Argentine international Samuel joined AS Roma in September 2000 and the 27-year-old defender helped the Serie A side win the Scudetto the following year.

It was hoped the pair would steady the Real defence, which has been a target for criticism this season.

And doesnt Real Madrid still owe Inter Milan money for the Ronaldo transfer since neither McManaman/Solari wanted to move to Italy?

I doubt that Real will sign both, but they will sign someone who can hold their defence, either it be one of them or someone else who is good, they will... mark my words:mrpimp:

On another note Real still owes us 10 Million US$ I think, anywayz I heard they will be paying it to us over 3 year, I guess they finally broke the bank huh? Soon if they continue this way they will have 2 sell the Bernabeau and then they could move in with Atletico, man would that be the day:D though don't get me wrong I like them and their style, but I am still a diehard Inter fan;)

Madrid(real is REAL SOCIEDAD) will get the person they want, its just smoke Valdano is blowing.

I don't depend too greatly on "translations" As Valdano may have said something completely different.

Roma WILL need the money, they wont make CL, and Samuel will be a huge target for Madrid.

Madrid want to get rid of Morientes, Solari, Macca, Conceciao, and im sure the Government will give them a little money on the side ;)

And you dont think the Spanish government will help out their buddys in Madrid?

The Spanish government(the facist regime of Franco) often favoured Madrid, and times have not changed, with the government basically paying off their debt, the transfers of Figo, Zizou, Concecaio etc, by paying 300% the valued price of their training ground

havent you people rea real madrid r in seriuos debts most of the spanish clubs are in big debts
valencia,barcelona,realmadrid....
they have got a collective loan of i billoin dollars
tthe highest contributor being real madrid a very large amount almost as twice as 2nd barcelona then the thid being valencia
so i guess they will be having to sell some players before they buy

LOL, Ganesh, obviously in Bagalore you will not know much about the Spanish Government, but they help out Madrid Immensly.

Madrid had a debt of around 4BMM from what i've read, but since The Government paid off 300% more than the property value, and with obvious under hand dealings, the money is still flowing(contarary to what Valdano has "said")

Valencia have big money problems, so does Deportivo, but every Club goes through debt, and its very achievable(so long as the Owner is willing to pay, and Lendoiro is willing to see the debt through)

The market has saturated in europe, but clubs will still buy if they need to.
