I thought it was a very good match and the 1-0 scoreline isn't a good reflection of just how good it was as it could easily have been 3-3.

Rangers played well, even if the ref did give them a bit of a helping hand by turning a blind eye to some of Rangers' offences, particularly one of the most clear-cut penalties in CL history, and Quinton Fortune getting kicked in the heels as his strength kept the ball away from Rangers players as he advanced forward. But the ref would be my only gripe on an otherwise enthralling game.

Who'd have thought that Phil Neville would score the only goal of the game? :) From a United point of view, Giggs was my man of the match but you can't fault United's defenders. Tim Howard was very good pulling off a couple of tremendous saves, particularly from a long range shot from Arvelatze (?). Rio made an outstanding last gasp tackle from Lovenkrantz when he looked odds on to score Rangers' best chance of the game and Silvestre looked rarely troubled.

The match was pretty even up until the goal (5mins!!!) then for 35mins of the 1st half Rangers dominated and missed any decent chances they had, and there weren't a lot as United defended well. But while a team sits back and defends anything can happen. The last 5mins of the 1st half were pretty even again as United started getting a foothold in the game.

2nd half was fairly even as well with United shading it, ever so slightly, imo. United started creating chances and probably had the best chances, Giggs was causing the left side of the Rangers defense problems whenever he had the ball and Van Nistelrooy started to get in the game as did Roy Keane. Scholesey started coming into it towards the end as well as Rangers pushed ahead for the equaliser. Rangers had good chances too but Howard and the United back line were more than equal to them.

Had Rangers won the match by a goal, I wouldn't have denied that they deserved it, and likewise as Man Utd won by a goal I can't deny that it wasn't what they deserved.

I'm looking forward to the Old Trafford fixture now and we'll see how Rangers perform without their passionate crowd to drive them on. That would be the test for them. United passed the first test.

phil, phil will tear you apart again.

he is improving all the time and he never gets frustrated for when he is usually on the bench, and when he is in the team he works 100%.
he is dedicated to the club as well. any club would like to have a such all round player as him.

this is one in the eye for all the neville haters out there.

his third goal in two seasons....

v Saints at OT 2002 -----put through by a though ball....
V Hammers at OT 2002 (FA Cup 4th Round) ------ another solo goal which was remarkably familiar to that of the rangers goal...

That was a really hard match for us rangers defiantely had more chances than us and i thought that they would score at lease 1 goal.

he didnt declare war with heovojo, did he?

back-to-match: i noticed that giggs passing was terrible in this game... but i hope he will really be in-form and deliver quality passes... he's our only 'senior' wideman since becks left... he have to be more consistent .... did frisk not giving us a penalty a blessing for rangers? if rangers do score a goal against us and win.... (:/)

Yeah, His passing was really bad, he always underhit the ball, getting his teammates into trouble. His mazy run these days seem to go nowhere, and I think of the whole team, he's the one who concedes possesion the most times in all games. Remember he was through on a fast break with RVN in the first half? He just had to hit the pass into the defender's legs when there were acres of space to get the ball to RVN. Hope Giggs buck up and play better.

Fernandez

Team Captain
yeah, if giggs played badly against big clubs, we would be losing...
but his mazy runs are the key... only if he knows where to run off to...

The Red Devil
Giggs werent all that fantastic in the first half, but he turned on the style in the 2nd. :D :rockman:

Phil Neville was my man of the match, we could've been held atleast a point if he did not stop that Moore header off the line let alone getting himself a goal.

Howard came close to being my man of the match, one of his best performance's yet for the Red Devils.

Rio Ferdinand is starting to show his worth.

/me sets off a flare...
