Im doing a project regarding marketing a fictional product in another country. Ive chosen to sell maple syrup in belgium due to the popularity of waffles/crepes etc. Now, what i was wondering was how popular is maple syrup in Belgium, or if it is even sold there. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hope it's not too late to help you out, buddy!
It's of general knowledge that us, Belgians, are in favour of some decent Brussels waffles. I prefer mine to be covered in whipped cream or strawberry goodness. But syrup, kind Sir, is a big no-no!
I do not know what is going in on your crazed little mind to think that us, Belgians, with such a violant history of war, peadophilia and kitten tickling, would mind having syrup on our waffles! Especially maple syrup is cursed upon by the "Belgian Gastronomical Society" who prefer to add caviar or the likes of sour cream on their waffles. A widely spread rumour of quarrel eggs being added onto Brussels waffles is a damn lie, might I add.
To continue on your question: all maple syrup was taken out of stores by the end of 2001, following the Dutroux-act which prohibited selling products which would shame our national 'cuisine'. This list includes such products as: maple syrup, jangerberries, green oranges, dogs, chew bakka (somesort of Indonesian spice), maple syrup etc.
Trying to sell it here or even floating around with an idea as such could get you in great trouble, which I hope you understand. Belgian chef cooks are relentless bastards when it concerns things like this.
Hope this helps your project. May you get an A+++!
