Question about forwards

Right ok, i know this is a wierd one. I am a CM veteran and i have always wondered but never been bothered to ask, and i guess it's this version that has heightened my suspicions.

Fowards, you know the players with FC,FL,FR or FLRC and the like next to their name. And strikers are the ones with S next to them. That i understand. But there isn't a position for Strikers (S) it always comes up as F. This also I don't mind cos i guessed that the forwards are the playmaking forward, knock downs and the like and the strikers are the predators, the goal poachers. Once again i'd understand that.............BUT...............While looking at wayne rooney for example, who is a FC, it says under his description as a promising Attacking Midfielder. Right........now i'm confused. So Forwards should be used maybe in the whole behind the striker, but then where do your AM players play. If AM and F are the same why the different letter. And this also begs the question whether i should be playing a forward up front, if he's classed as an attacking midfielder in their description should i only have strikers up front.

If someone could clear this up i'd be grateful, it just seems to be a bit of an overlap and i'm not sure which way i should go.

Chars.

A Striker is an all out attacker, and should only be played in the forward position. A forward is a more creative and 'setting up' sort of attacker who can play anywhere from the midfield forward but is not appropriate as a lone striker.

Yeah, there are exceptions, such as Raul who is an FC but perfectly good as a lone striker.

Aren't their certain attributes that indicate whether they are good as a lone strikers or not.

Nice to see you post again Fellachap ;)

sorry i've been away so long, been very busy. But i'm back with a vengence and finding CM4 much more enjoable thanks evertons new signings, franny jeffers, jamie mcfadden, kilbane and martyn. But another question. I have the CMsorted update (and put those transfers in myself) and i do find it very accurate apart from one thing..........................Cheltenham are invincible!!! Half way through the second season and cheltenham had one the third division without losing a game and won both the league cup and the FA cup. I feel whoever did the update may be a sneaky Cheltenham fan, has anyone else found this, or is it just a freak occurance, cos the players stats don't look fantastic!!!!!

yeah i suppose there are, to play lone striker you have to be of a certain mould in my view, you have to be able to often go it alone yourself or be able to hold up the ball for long periods, i always feel a stronger, more aggresive brave player is very good as lone striker, as they dont have a problem often dealing with 2 or more defenders marking them, Off The Ball skills are obviously VERY important with good positions an essential part of the position. But dont worry, its not all bad being a lone striker, for example, a lone striker doesnt have to have as muchg creativity/flair as a normal striker, as often they are not sculpting out their own attacks as 2 strikers often have to (this is because there is often more people in midfield to supply the lone striker with perfect balls). However, flair is still useful, and should never be underestimated. Finishing is obviously very important as the lone striker may not get as many shots on goal as 2 would do.

Alan Shearer is probably the best example of a lone striker, he is brave, aggressive, strong and has a great finish on him, despite his relative lack of flair he bags 10's of goals a season.

Btw, Sir Didier*s description of the FC/SC was near spot on.

TROD.

- Hope this helped.

yeah, i think most people do, they are just a tiny bit more... offensivly minded than AM's. In my view Rooney is a classic Forward.

I can tell you exactly when the game will consider someone a forward, and when a striker...

As most should know, every player has positional ratings.

If a player has over 15 (out of 20) for any position, they are shown up as being able to play that position, however there are some exceptions...

If a player is a Defensive mid, and attacking mid, they defensive mid will be shown and not the attacking mid.

If a player has over 15 as a striker (their isnt positional ratings for both striker and forward), and has ONLY centre and not left or right for side, then the player will be down as a striker. If the player has left or right, aswell as striker, the player will be down as a Forward. If a player has 15+ as attacking midfielder, aswell as striker, then they are also a forward. Finally, if a player has 15+ as a midfielder, an attacking midfielder, AND a striker then they are down as AM/F.

Hope thats easy enough to understand....

Then why is Andrés D'Alessandro, who is 20 mid, 20 att mid, 20 forw, 20 center, denoted a F C and nothing else, in stead of AM/F C?
