Quarterfinal #1: Portugal - Germany [P+R]

Man what an INTENSE game!!! Portugal actually surprised me a little bit with the amount of goals and shots they got in this EURO. But at the end of the day, what was different about them since WC 2006? Improved but far more tired Ronaldo, that's about it. Still same old mistake-prone keeper and same old non-performing strikers (although both of them scored today), and full reliance on defense and midfield to do the full job. Works against smaller nations but in big games like these, it rarely paysoff. Anyway, i loved the Ballack push on Ferriera before the third german goal and Ferreira looked so focused and happy that he was gonna get it, until that last second. lol

How good is Podolski too? I'm surprised nobody picked him up from Bayern bench yet. And i gotta say, Joachim's tactical change to bring in Schweistenger and Hitszpelberger on the wings with Podolski instead of Gomez upfront was the master stroke decision. The germans were a completely different team from the one that played Croatia. Had Frings been playing, Portugal would have struggled even more probably.

Hahahahahahahha, yeah, Moutinho is whom I meant.......

Jorge Costinha's name just popped into my head for some reason. I think it was because he looks a bit similar to Pepe/Bosingwa............

I bet you are as happy as I am right now!

To be fair though, Ronaldo is usually marked quite heavily by opposing teams.

Not in this game he wasn't.

Anyways, better luck next time around Lusitans.

And also claiming that Portugal was the best team in the pitch is a little unfair.

Oh come one don't start with the "we had control", "we did what we had to do", "there are no moral victories" kind of blabber....The fact is that Portugal was the better team, but it's not like Germany didn't play, they had some merit in scoring three goals, I'll give them that...

How can you expect Germany to control the game when they were up by 2 most of the time man? All i am saying is that the better team won, nuff said.

The only time Portugal was better was in the last 10-15 mins. But than again Germany was fine with that being 2 goals ahead.

Oh come on! They were also better in the last 10 mins of the 1st half. Infact throughout the 2nd half, even though you guys created a few chances, Ricardo didn't have to face a lot of shots.....Lehman did, althouth the quality of Portuguese finishing was awful. They DID create more chances than you guys in the 2nd half but nothing serious materialized from them. They were pushing the game more in the 2nd half. Your 3rd goal came completely against the run of play and, other than that, I'm sorry but, it just didn't look like Germany were dictating the pace.....Portugal WERE! I saw more persistent Portugal attacking (for that I'd have to say that they were the better, or MORE aggressive, of the 2 teams) but the finish was lacking.....

I don't know why he don't let play Fernando Meira...he plays in Germany.
He knows the german players...ferreira was such a big pussy.
Ricardo...:swear2:
And Petit?! Man he is so old and lost all the chances. Simao was one who played really bad.
And then he put out Nuno Gomes...why not Almeida!? A big forward...to play against this big defence.

They had 4 chances and scored 3 Goals...we had 10 Chances and scored 2.
It's hard...but that's football.

I hope know will come a portuguese Coach...this ******* brasilian i can't see him.
I hope he will lose all at Chelsea!

FORCA PORTUGAL!

What part of 'we were 2 goals ahead' didn't you understand man? Ok so it is 25 minutes they played better. How about the other 65?

i am not saying that Portugal was not playing as they should have. I am simply bothered by the fact that although Germany was clearly the best team on the pitch, people still claim Portugal was far superior. Bollocks

I agree with Deisler a little bit. No matter how good you are, you just can't really expect to control Portugal when being 2 goals ahead in such an immense game. Maybe on one in a hunderd tries, but its very very common when two good teams play and one goes ahead by 2 goals then the others starts to attack. Especially with 5 players in midfield for Portugal unlike for Germany i would expect lots of control around the final third.

hahah dude Ferreira's face made me lol during the replay.

What I don't understand is why Schweinstenger (SP?) didn't start during the group stage...he always puts so much effort in and even when he came on as a sub you'd see the German team lift a bit...

Schweinsteiger was out of form in the end of the Bundesliga season. I think that is why he didn't start before.

Wow. I did not expect that.

Not because we lost, but because, again, and as always, we played better than the opposing team and lost nevertheless.

1st douchebag's goal: Ferreira and Ricardo are shyte.

2nd douchbag's goal: Ricardo is kind of shyte, our defence is shyte.

3rd douchebag's goal: Ferreira is fouled. The referee is shyte. Ricardo is shyte. Yet Ferreira is also shyte, he could've gone down.

Ronaldo can go back to Manchester or Madrid or Madeira or whatever until he decides to man up when he's playing for Portugal.

Ferreira can go **** himself.

Ricardo...I've had enough with Ricardo. One chance, two chances, three chances, four chances to redeem himself over the course of this 5 and a half years. Why does everybody else get stuck at one?

The refereeing was pretty bad, he had a hard time showing the cards for the Germans, yet everytime a Portuguese player touched his opponent he whistled and waved the yellow.

All in all, we played much better football than them, the only thing we did wrong were those crosses, those ******* crosses to the german's area which lead nowhere.

This is all I can say at the moment, and I reckon it was a lot considering the state I'm in.

Oh, Deco is the player of the tournament, I don't care how many Sneijders or Villas you throw at him, he is the player of the tournament.

Umm, what? You're a pretty sarcastic guy so I'm just gonna assume you're doing it here as well.

Whatever man you guys won. I wasn't expecting graciousness in victory from you guys either, so, congratulations.
How about graciousness in defeat?

For me, Germany were the more impressive team on the pitch today. Portugal had more posession and more "control" but what did they do with it? I wish I had counted, because I swear they took 8 or 9 shots from outside of the box (especially Meireles) and never came within two yards of the goal. Very frail on attack.

The Germans, on the other hand, astounded me on their counterattacks with their speed and passing. I didn't expect that from a team whose starters all played just three days earlier.

we were eliminated because we didn't play at our level. we are the better team but with those defensive mistakes our possibilities of winning dropped drastically. but i have to admit i saw it coming, these teams always end up winning tournaments. i wouldn't be even a bit surprised if netherlands is eliminated by italy

on the bright side deco was amazing, what a player, screw ronaldo and all this nonsense around him, deco was by far our best and most influential player.
