problems with controls on xbox

I'm having problems executing two moves on the xbox, both which require the black button. The moves are on pages 6 and 7 in the manual. First one is the 1-2. Second is the 'Player runs' when using off the ball. I particularly want to get the player runs working so can do some nice through balls.
Anyone had any luck with these moves? If so, any tips to get them working? Also, which controller do you have. I'm getting paranoid that it''s because i have the old style controller (although thats pretty stupid i suppose).

I've also not been able to work out any tricks with the black button - been infuriating but I guessits not just me eh??

which controller are you using? (ok, ok, i know it's stupid suggesting controllers could have different results but you never know)

I'm using the original controller but what makes me think this may have something to do with it is I bought the copy in Toys R Us and they were giving away a controller with every purchase..... Which I havent tried yet as it looks crap

I too have had no luck with the 1-2 using the Black Button. I have the old style Xbox controller.

All buttons work the same for the original-pad or Controller-S for Xbox.
