Posible Solution temp fix to FIFA 11 Crashing Randomly

I think I found a temp solution / fix to the FIFA 11 crashing at random problem until EA get their finger out….

On the EA forums I came across issues relating to DEP (Data Execution Prevention) thinking that FIFA 11 program could be a potential threat and closing it down. This could account for the game crashing randomly. I tried ‘Turn on DEP for all programs except those I select’ and added fifa.exe to the list.

So far I have played 4 games without a crash that used to crash every other game randomly. This is on a Win XP platform. I cannot check this on Vista or Windows 7 hopefully some of you guys that have these platforms can check this out.

Give it a go if it causes other problems or dosn't work you can always easily reverse it.

I hope it works for you if so let me know and I'm sure some of you guys can figure out a patch to maybe change a registry key () to exclude the fifa.exe and leave the DEP set to ‘Turn on DEP for essential windows programs and services only’

To do this follow the procedure:-

1...Right click on My computer
2...Select Properties > Advanced > performance settings
3...Select the Data Execution Prevention tab
4...Click the button Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
5...Select Add and navigate to Local Disk > Program files > EA Sports > FIFA 11 > Game > Fifa.exe
6...Click open
7..Click Apply

Thanks for the link to Garga's thread, I will play a few more games and if no crashes I will try changing the registry and will post a procedure of how to do it here.

I am hoping some of you guys try it too and let me know.

stopped playing my pc version just because of the random crashes


also the DEP procedure does not work on Win7 32bit

i was playing 2.5 hours without crash. exhibition randomly (pohang steelers vs real madrid, argentine vs japan, etc, etc). my system : win xp sp3.

so its the solution for WINDOWS XP SP3. :dance:

ps : i'm newbie about system. what's the purpose of doing this for fifa11... (in simple words)

im using win xp 3 but my pc won't let me modify any dep settings. im logged on as an administrator. dunno wats wrong. ne help?

we have a same system. i'll show you the my SS how i done it.

sj25, click on the start menu, right click on my computer, select properties.
click on the advanced tab, under performance click the settings button.
select the data execution prevention tab, & you got it from there.
turn it on for all programs, if it doesnt allow you to add it for just fifa.

thanx cat but my laptop just won't let me do anything in d dep tab.all the buttons are disabled.it says u need to be an administrator and need to use boot.ini file. but I am logged on as an administrator. so dnt kno y all the buttons r disabled in d dep settings.

In Garga's thread on the EA forum, he talks of modifying the registry. I have not tried this but if you guys whos having problems with accessing DEP could maybe try this. I would strongly advise you to create a system restore point first (start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore) so if it dosn't work you can restore back before you did the mod.

Again I can't look at this on a vista or windows 7 platform as I only have windows XP so I don'y know if can get to / or have a regedit option from the command run
