Welcome to ESPN 6.25's opening show of the 4th season of the Portuguese PL presented by me, Paulinho Estomaco Saccano de Boa Sorte, your politically correct, Southern European reporter. With a moustache.

Today I will bring to you the draw of the group phase in this PL, aswell as a preview to the first week of this intens competition.

But first, let me explain to you the rules of this rather remarkable competition:

FORMAT:
- 2 stages: group phase (first 17 games) and knock-out phase (last 17 games)
- groups are divided in 4 groups of 6 and 1 group of 7. Top 3 of each group plus the overall best number 4 will go through.
- in the knock-out phase, participants will have to predict a predeterminate (sp?) amount of games to go through to the next stage: 1/8 round: 3 games, 1/4 round: 4 games, 1/2 round: 5 games, final and 3rd/4th final: 5 games.
- knock-out rounds are played by two contestants, with the contestant having scored the most points after 3/4/5 gamedays to go through.
- every gameday starts on Monday and ends on Saturday evening (7PM Belgian time/6PM GMT I think...) Predictions after this period will not count!

POINT SYSTEM:
- predictions will be made by using the "1x2-system" AND score prediction.
- on every gameday you'll have to predict 9 games.
- points for a correct 1x2 prediction: 1 points
- bonus points are earned by predicting the correct score: 2 points => so one can get a max of 3 points per game, max 27 points per gameday
- the same point system is used during the group phase and the knock-out phase

- FC Porto - Benfica 1 ... 2-0 => result is 2-0 => 3 points
- Sporting - Benfica X ... 0-0 => result is 1-1 => 1 points
- FC Porto - Benfica 2 ... 1-2 => result is 2-0 => 0 points

THE PORTUGUESE SUPERLIGA FUN LEAGUE:
Because one can not predict anymore after elimination in the official PL, I will run a "Fun League" which everybody can join at any moment. For this league I will use the score predictions from the official PL. When you get eliminated from the PL, you just continue predicting by using the "score prediction-system":

- Perfect prediction (win or draw) => 5 points
eg. FC Porto 2-1 Benfica => your prediction: FC Porto 2-1 Benfica
eg. Sporting 0-0 Benfica => your prediction: Sporting 0-0 Benfica
- Predict winner + goal difference => 3 points
eg. FC Porto 2-1 Benfica => your prediction: FC Porto 3-2 Benfica
- Predict winner => 1 point
eg. FC Porto 2-1 Benfica => your prediction: FC Porto 2-0 Benfica
- Predict draw => 2 points
eg. Sporting 0-0 Benfica => your prediction: Sporting 2-2 Benfica

- Winners of the "Fun League" will get a nice medal too...

Welcome back to part two of the opening show for the Portuguese PL 2006-2007, brought to you this year by ESPN 6.25.

Next we will concentrate on the draw of the group phase. As mentioned in the rules we start with 4 goups of 6 players and one group of 7 players. The top 3 plus the best overall number 4 will qualify for the knock-out phase.
