YEAH!!! WE WON!!! :rockman:

It wa a FANTASTIC game! Great atmosphere, great goals, great drama! I wish we had games like this more often in our championship...

I don't have the slightest problem saying Sporting was more consistent and played even better than us, and that we had the luck by our side this time (but it was about time!). But I think the result ends up being fair, because we never gave up, we took our chances and didn't fail in the decisive moments! We also had a very good performance, mainly with a great attitude and fighting spirit! Our players showed today what we fans demand of them: full concentration and commitment!

Great day for me: Benfica won and also Estrela da Amadora! (H)

Nakamura , i won't dissert about the fairness of the final result , as it is a utter subjective matter , and , in the end , it doesn't give any constructive meaning to any football discussion.

Well , i must confess , now that passed a few hours from the term of the game , it's kinda painful , for me , do a retrospective analysis of this game... damn... loosing , on penaltys , after doing such a great exhibition... :( Really fantastic , mostly , Sporting's first half... stunning and breathtaking high pressure , great colective movements , awesome goals , almost a total control on the match even if it was played away in the house of a rival... ****... it was fantastic... i only regret that we are not a coherent and consistent side.. if only we were... i really think we can easily win this year's Superliga... hell , but our defense... our COACH. :kader:

Speaking about Peseiro... it's kinda enigmatic... i do think he is a really execrable coach... but heck , Sporting's football , at times , is really beautiful , really atractive... in opposition to that , as a dichotomy i think will be always present in this year's team , there's those incredible and unaceptable defensive errors , those shallow and lousy approaches towards the final minutes of several games... Maybe , when it comes to the undeniable growth of Sporting's team , it's more the merit of the players and their quality than the influence of the coach...

Speaking about players... who would thought that Hugo Viana would make a presentation like the one he did today... magnificent... that is the player whose resides the potential to one of the best offensive midfielder of the future... the legitimate receiver of the legacy of Rui Costa... and Deco. The HV we all saw since the beginning of the season until today's game it's just a pathetic ghost of the HV who gracies us with today's exibihition... it's a shame we'll probably see very few of this player and a lot from that unspicy miserable HV we've all seen from the summer until now...

A word for Roca , Liedson , Sá Pinto , Enak , Moutinho , heck even Paito too... sublime night today... pity it had such a gloomy end. :(

Anyway... i'll be at Alvalade , monday night ( if i don't die until then , i think my heart condition is not the better , after two derbys in two weeks ) , proudly supporting the team and our mighty club (H) , and uh... yes , i will kill Miguel Garcia. (H):(

Well, its taken me more than 12 hours to recover from this rollercoaster ride. My voice is still shot to hell after one of the all time greatest matches ever to have been played in Portugal. Plenty of action, with a little bit of controversy thrown in. Our grandchildren will surely be talking about this one. Now for some random thoughts:

-Four goals in the first 25 minutes. I surely wasn't expecting that, because derby matches usually don't live up to the hype.

-It was a shame that the second half descended into an orgy of yellow cards. In fact, they were coming in so fast, that the RTP graphics operator mistakenly "sent off" Luisao for two bookable offences, even though he was issued only one yellow.

-Joao Pereira should hire the tuxedo. He is now up for an Academy Award for "The Sending Off Of Hugo Viana"

-Paíto's goal: GOAL OF THE SEASON 2004/2005

-During the shootout, Quim was engaging in mind games and gamesmanship with the Sporting penalty takers. I kept saying, "Cut the crap, and just let them take the penalty".

Last night, we witnessed what our football was all about. Everyone left it all on the pitch in an epic encounter that will live on for all eternity.

You're totally right. The fairness of a result is a highly subjective thing. And there's also that theory that whoever wins deserves it, regardless of how the game went. Anyway, when people are at least trying to be objective and have a serious discussion about a football games, it sometimes does have relevance saying if you think the result was adjusted to what happened on the pitch or not...

I only talked about this in my post because although Sporting played better (and so, in theory, they deserved the win more), it wasn't one of those games were the other team was totally dominated and didn't do anything to win. No, Benfica, although not playing as well as Sporting, had a great attitude and a good performance, so it can't be said that it was one of those games with an extremely unfair winner (recently, in Atletico Madrid-Real Madrid this happened. I'm not talking about fairness or not, but the result, 3-0 for Real was hugely deceiptive of what happened on the pitch and extremely harsh on Atletico). It was just this I was trying to point out...

just want to say what a f*cking privilege it was to watch this at the stadium. It was just completely crazy. I was walking to a door preparing to leave the stadium, look to the grass and see Simao banging a shot and it's in! Man I thought that was it, the stadium was going down. Everybody hugging and crying... it was sentimental as hell. I think I'll keep the ticket forever as a relic (H).

Yes we keep playing crap and Trappatoni is a very poor coach, Sporting played much better especially in the first half. We played 20 min of good football in the 2nd half when the team remembered to put some pressure but that's about it. It gets really frustrating to see Quim catch the ball and kick it right away to a Sporting player.

Joao Pereira played very well apart from the acting, probably the best game I ever seen from him in a Benfica shirt. Apart from him of course Simao. And Luisao also played well but dunno what he was thinking in that Paito's goal. The guy gets f*cking owned and WTF he doesn't even move, he just stopped and keep looking to Paito as he ran past him. Alcides ball control makes Pinilla look like Zidane :funny:. And Geovanni is the laziest guy ever, but hell at least he was on the right place two times yesterday.

I'm just delighted I watched this live man, it was worth every penny. :mrpimp:

Great game yesterday at the "galinheiro"... :p Both teams could have won in the regular time but i think Sporting was more solid as a team, the 2 first goals of Benfica were a little bit lucky, not to mention in the 3rd the keeper was a little "mal batido", anyway the PK's are a lotary and Benfica had the luck on his side...

this game has just proved my thoughts, LUISAO AND J.PEREIRA ARE AVERAGE PLAYERS. Luisao is ****, and Joao Pereira needs a slap or two. the guy thinks he's great, but he's not

bruno Agiuar should have been given a red card, cuz say what u want Liedson had his men beat and would be on a break.

who cares , Benfica won, Sporting should have won, that's life.
