"Portugal will be the biggest disappointment of WC" NewYorkTime dixit

The «New York Times» newspaper writes in the edition of this sunday that Portugal will be the "biggest disappointment" of Worl Cup!

It says: "A team of immense talent that has played together for years but has not won anything except world youth championships. Figo has been battling an ankle injury for months. Will be the Cup's biggest disappointment. "

It also mentions a few players:
"Player You Might Know
Midfielder Luis Figo of Real Madrid, the reigning FIFA world player of the year.

Player you Should Know
Midfielder Rui Costa, who plays at A.C. Milan in Serie A, and striker Pauleta, a top scorer at Bordeaux in the French league."

Can we consider the opinion of an American newspaper? Rival of Portugal at Group D, joining Poland and South Korea as well?

GO PORTUGAL! GO!!! :p

You know what, I'm glad they think that way. That's the kind of attitude I like to see in our opponents, that could spark our team's pride. I hope Couto and the rest of the boys read that article too.;)

They should cut it out and post it on the wall of their dressing room before each match and then go out and kick the sh!t out of the USA and the rest of group D.

I hope Portugal go far this year, they'll definately be one of the teams I'm rooting for.

IMO Argentina will be the biggest disappointment.

... so many ppl think they will win the WC, so even if they get eliminated in the quarter finals it will be a disappointment.

Haha, do not read anything about football in a United States newspaper. Trust me, I live in the southeastern US and no journalist has a f*cking clue what football is. A local reporter interviewed my father a couple months ago because he thought my father was a professional because he was juggling....

Shall I mention that he can only juggle 10-20 times?

While I believe Portugal could easily be a disappointment, they won't lose in the group stage.

Yeah, well Sports Illustrated also wrote some sh** like how Croatia didn't have a chance against Mexico....a comment that's "mysteriously" connected to the many Mexicans living in the US + sales of the magazine... :clapwap: :-puke: :brow: :mambo:

Ah anyone can say what they want, doesn't mean it's going to happen....it always cracks me up when people read something written by a sports journalist and automatically think it's gospel...I don't mean anyone here, more the general uninformed soccer fan who only cares about football during world cup time

Portugal will have great WC but they won´t win it cos a team from south america, that uses a yellow shirt and they know pretty well ,since 1500, will win the WC again and put another star over it´s badge cos we´re tired of having just this 4.hahahahah. Just kidding.:D :D :D

By the way Americans know about soccer teh same that I know about chemistry.

PORTUGAL 1 FINLAND 4

Remember this? It was a friendly played at Boavista's ground a couple of months ago. Portugal were missing Figo and Rui Costa, but so what? They got hammered. They started the game all serious and everything but when losing 4-1 after 60 mins they quit playing. Couto kicked Litmanen and Conceicao was mad at him for something after the game, they appeared to take it quite seriously.

Oh, by the way I DO NOT believe this American newspaper that says Portugal will be a disappointment, but they'll be very lucky to make the quarter finals.

That result doesn't mean sh!t, especially being a friendly...it's one of those things that happen once every 100 years, just like England winning 5-1 in Germany, do u really think if they played again tomorrow the result would be the same?? Gimme a break, you're a fool if you think that result actually means something, but apparently by listening to some of you guys, it will go down in History as Finlands greatest achievment....

You are all afraid of what you already know to be fact...

the USA is going to slice, dice, mince, grind, chop, hack, lop, fell, slash, mangle, smash, mash, crush etc. Portugal on the 5th of June.

I am only saying this because it is true... You will now taste the bitter sting of your defeat. Portugal is not going anywhere, but back to Portugal.

By the way... U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
