Poker has gotten insanely popular lately. I love playing it whenever I can, and for money too. That's the only way I can get a real game going.

Anyone else play it here? I'm playing a lot of online poker nowadays too. Just thought I'd start a thread here; haven't done so in a long time.

When i saw the title of this thread I thought / hoped it would be a rant.

Seeing how it isn't heres mine....

*clears throat*...ok...

I play poker but seriously ..... Every f*ckin channel has poker on it ....

a bunch of random gamblers with nothing better to do becoming household names (N)

i mean ..fine. have a couple of shows on TV ... but ESPN, FSN, Travel Channel, UPN, BRAVO etc etc... all showing random people winning / losing. I mean who cares is Chris f*ckin Moneymaker wins or Daniel Negreanu gets a full house ? They are arbitary names who haven't even achieved anything of significance.

And as if that weren't enough... Poker merchanside everywhere I go, books on poker ...Isn't it getting a LITTLE out of hand ? Its sad that Poker was the thirst most watched sport in America after racing and football. That means just one thing - Waaay too many hicks and fat f*cks in this country ... surprise surprise.

Stop watching this bullsh*t on TV. If you like the game... Play it. Get some friends, crack open a beer, get some nachos and play in your basement. Don't just watch a bunch of morons get popular when they are already getting wayyyyyyyy more than they deserve.

Whats with the US and crappy sports being popular ? Baseball, Nascar, Poker... not to mention the fine arts of hunting and fishin'.

I think im going to pull my hair out.

I enjoy a bit of televised poker, too, but only really to improve my game (which stinks). We play a weekly home game, have a bit of a smoke, a bit of food and a single table tournament. Good times.

I have only got into Poker recently but have found out I am actually pretty good. I dont really go in for online poker, tried it a couple of time but always full of idiots who make totally irrational decisions (I dont have the balls to play for real money) so for the most part I just stick to playing with my friends. Despite playing for the shortest time, I am already the best among us however. I may venture into trying it for cash before too long .

I have nothing against poker shows on TV, I just avoid them.

Ah yes I hate telives poker aswell, in England now the craze is growing for late night poker sessions with soap stars. I mean who wants to see that? I certainly dont for one, the idea of watching 7 mediocre C-list celibrites at midnight playing poker around a table in some random location fills me with woe. Why?

Im all for the idea of actually playing poker (much like Iceblu said) but this new craze of televised poker is just plain stupid.

My 2 cents.

yeah i love to play Poker but it pisses me off how much attention it now gets on TV, sure its funny watching people play for about 5 minutes but then you check whats on and ITV, Five and Sky regularly have these massive tournaments, why cant they just make one world champioship every year worth about £5million and then we can be done with it.

Poker should be played at 1am in the morning between mates. lol

You're so right, nothing better than playing cards for small stakes well into the morning with whiskey, good cigars and a bit of Stan Getz or Dizzy Gillespie playing low in the background. I have only started to get into jazz recently because of times like these.

I actually like watching it on TV. Speaking of ESPN and Poker, a new episode of the World Series of Poker is coming on tonite. ;)

By the way, does anyone feel like trying out online poker? I got a good online refferal bonus if anyone is interested.

Its a great past time, but not a sport or an exhibition. Needless to say, I expect it to die down as everything reaching such dizzying stardom so fast eventually does (the Osbournes, The Facebook, 50 Cent, Lord of the Rings, et al)

The saddest part is the "dark side" of the whole phenomena. I saw a news bit on all these kids who did nothing but play it in college and became overnight gambling addicts in Freshman Year :| One guy was like "I would practice online when I got up, then I would go to class, and all I could think about was hands I had gotten the previous night, strategies, stuff like that. Then I would get home and play till 2-3 in the morning and it was only when i flunked out that I realized what I was doing to myself". What the hell? How a relaxed, classic pasttime with the guys became a fad so massive I shall never know, but I wish it would just end.

But hey, if youre good at it and youre making money online off all these two bit suckers, then why not keep at it
