Practice, practice practice.

Use caution, hold the ball up in midfield, create spaces, pass to the open man, play FOOTBALL zemljak. You'll get the hang of it.

ask something specific, and we'll be glad to oblige and help you out.

happy gaming mate ! :)

Yeah, I know. I'm playing PES, on PS2. I'm having most trouble when getting out one on one and the keeper is coming out, the shot always goes just by the post. Also, it's impossible for me to pull of a lob inside the box! It goes over the bar! I hold the change cursor+just tap shoot! How about low but strong shots? What's the most useful scheme when going one onto just one defender? I find that the easiest way to score is when going through @ 45 degrees+tapshoot!Goalie never gets it!
Which is the best formation? Corners + crossed balls are difficult to get to! Yeah, I know, it's a matter of practice, but, I need a few tips. Thanks!

I just wrote something in another topic about shooting (the one from monkee) maybe there is something you can use....
For going 1 on 1 on the keeper: I don't know if there is a 100% way to do that. Most of the times it work but sometimes it will simply not going into the net :(
Most of the times you are not 100% in a straight line when 1 on 1.
I always tap it in the short corner.
I also asked a question about lobshots (see LOB-shots in PES) maybe you find your answer there...
Remember, it is just football and somtimes you score and sometimes you miss; you never find a way to score all the time.
As many pointed out before: It is no FIFA :D
Succes!

low strong shots can be executed , sometimes, by pressing forward on the shot bar, making sure your balance is set and your weight is moving forward, aiming the shot to the corner, and letting rip about 60% power,. It'l' go low and hard. Takes practise, but worth it.

Do you mean by "making sure your balance is set" that the player is not in a turn or something like that?

Yeah, you wanna avoid those turning weak shots that keepers catch with the slightest of ease. Be over the ball, moving goalbound for the hardest shot. At least that's what I find

Yeah, I've noticed that when you are sprinting and you get over the ball, you can pump up the power bar and the ball goes faster and lower than when you get slowly into position at the same distance. I've managed to lob the keeper a few times. It looks great, even when the keeper manages to touch the ball. I fund few things a bit annoying; keeper punches the ball too high and when he jumps up to catch it at last, he looks like Super Mario at his first issue. Also, when the keeper drop-kicks out the ball, it goes way too high, out of the screen. Also, when the keeper gets from the line into position to drop-kick, he scrolls like drawn by some miraculous line. Anyway, regarding the graphics, the pitch is a bit unreal. The players should be a bit stronger, not so slim. There should be a ref +linesmen on the pitch, even stand in the way sometimes. Options should be like in fifa, as it's too annoying with the tactics, tournament options + some other things which are so great in Fifa. It's not so hard to make?! Apart of that, PES don't have any big minuses as it's gameplay is almost perfect. One thing that is realy annoying sometimes; players wait for the ball, and even though you try too direct them towards the ball, they just wait and wait while the opponent just pick it up in.

well, you've proceeded to completely destroy the game :(

I find keeper movements and animations great, can't complain. Soccer players are slim, and different players have different body types in PES. This is clearly evident. FIFA players are 40% too fat and big, you might be used to Goldberg lookalikes, but that ain't soccer.

The options are a valid complaint, but the gameplay and tactics(way WAY better than any other SPORTS game, not just FIFA) are so real it hurts.

I'd give the game a perfect 10, not because it IS perfect, but it's definitely great fun, and the best football game to date, probably the best sports sim to boot.

Breathtaking.

PES Veterans:>

Please excuse my ignorance here, i have just cross checked the PES game manual along with the info from that link that Han posted, and there is a reference to R3: jump to avoid intervention into slide .. and from the manual R3:Press the R3 button to jump .. R1 and R2 are quite understandable to me, but before i duck for cover, whatever is that R3 function and how is it executed in the game .. also i have just spotted a reference to L3 in the manual, is this all something to do with the analog-digital options on the Sony game controller, i am still a relative newbie to the Ps2 scene and am still working out the tricks and traps with this system .. and so far still figuring out the moves and tactics in this magnificent football game which at times leaves me looking in amazement at the happenings out there on the cyberpitch .. I think this will answer what you mean:

R3 - if you press on the Right analog stick. You should feel a slight click as the button is pressed.
L3 - same as R3 only with the left analog stick.

Hope that helps

TheCRO, why do you think I want to destroy the game? I think I just gave my opinion. Game is wonderful, but, it has some minuses! I just realised these and shared them. Otherwise, PES's minuses are so small comparing to any other game that it's almost unimportant, but, I would like to see, for example, the ref + the linesmen on the pitch! Is it too much? Options are poorer than in Fifa, that's obvious but least important as the gameplay is brilliant. Also, if I pass the ball I expect the receiving player to run towards it-it is not too much I'm asking, or is it!? Ball does fly too high and over/out of the screen when the goalie punts it out. Otherwise, the ball destination marker is a most brilliant feature on the other hand! R3 button is pressing the right analogue stick thus jumping over the liders. Why?!What if we don't have analogue sticks?Or, do we all have to buy analogue joysticks?
Anyway, each game is interesting and it's never boring to play over and over again, thus exploring new moves, actions and goals. Player movements are amazing and smooth, but, I still think that players are too slim-dot. Pitch is, and especially when it's raining, unrealistic, comparing to, for exapmle, Fifa2001 and 2002 pitches!

Although you directed this to theCRO, I like to express my opinion as wel, if you don't mind :)
I think you only talk about referee-options? If you mean options in general I must disagree strongly, this game flood you with options! Just watch the strategy-options.... (just an example)
Referees just are in the way and if needed they are in the picture to show cards.

Also, if I pass the ball I expect the receiving player to run towards it-it is not too much I'm asking, or is it!?

Why let the cpu decide if the player must come to you? This way you can decide yourself wether you want the player coming to you or not! It's just an extra gameplay option NOT to let the cpu decide...

If you buy a Playstation 2 you get as a default an analog gamepad.... so you already have one if you play this on PS2 :)

The steps in the rain are a bit weird, I agree, but that's all you can say. I really don't see why the pitches are unrealistic. I measured the length and width of the practice-pitch (by using the meters--display you see when taking free kicks) and the are in the perfect proportions!

BBB,

No disrespect mate, it just sounded like a really negative post, that's all. Criticism is fine, and it's good that we want improvements.

keep playing man, you'll figure new stuff out all the time.

DISAGREE!

1. I do NOT think that the players are too slim!
they are just perfectly shaped! yesterday my dad came into my room when I was playing PES (2 hours before Champions League) and he asked me if they started too early today :)

2. I experienced that bug when your players don't come to the ball in PE 2 but after playing PES (on 3 stars level) for 4 days now I have to tell you that I NEVER (not even a single time) experienced this in PES!!!!

3. Goalie anims are also so great and realistical! I love them unlike those mostly ****ed up ones in FIFA 2002.

4. It does NOT screw me up that the ball goes out of the screen when goalies punt.

5. ref + linesmen would be nice addition for sure.

6. tactics make PES the brilliant game it is. SUPERB options there!

my only complain still is (even tho the_man will blame me for that :) that the gamespeed is too fast.
but I still LOVE the game and I say IT IS THE BEST SPORTS GAME EVER MADE!

:) ;) btw i don't blame you, I just think you'll get use to it, cos I use to think the same. But if you still think it is too fast, then it is too fast for you.

I WANT to know how do you manage to run towards the ball which is passed to your player, especially the long low pass across the center when I always find my player just standing there, waiting for it, while the rushing oposing player just cuts it and gets off to a counterattack. I'm not foolin', 'cause the guy that's been playing ISS for years said that this is the same old bug!!!No matter how fast yu switch and try to get onto the passed ball, the player always just stands and waits, or just moves way too slow towards it!
The gameplay isn't too fast, but, I find that it does occure that when us ,unexperienced players just press the dashing button and rush all the time that we lose ball more oftern so the counterattacts and rushing up and down does happen most of the time, so the game becomes 'fast'. Otherwise it's pretty clear that when you slow down and come to realy feel and control the ball that the gamespeed is just right. You can easily play zone and cover space when you get to switch the rigth palyers at the right time. Otherwise, I'm still searching the right formation, as the counterattacks and through balls in lin @ counterattacks are quite fatal. I'm still quite unhappy about my defending and the situations when the denense is set and the balls start going around and th opposing players stand alone and wait to receive the ball at 20m from the goal with no adequate marking.
As for the analogue sticks-I'm sorry, but, when there is five of us, with 2 analogue pads+3 regular ps joysticks, it is a bit unfair, don't you think, and I don't realy want to spend any more money on that!
Many games look real to our dads, but the difference is that PES feels real!

let me tell you this...

if the cpu has the ball I always press pass and shoot button. that way your players automatically attack the cpu player with the ball. IT WORKS GREAT FOR ME!

the_man, is there something I have to set up on my PAL ps2 before I put the PES cd in? maybe that's why my PES is so fast???
just askin....

BAD BLUE BOY, I know what you are talking about (players don't come to the ball) that happend to me in PE2 but NEVER in PES. ask the_man he will approve that your players in 95% of the time come to the ball.
sometimes I also press R2, that way you can move the player when the ball is in the air! sometimes that works also when the ball is on the ground, I believe.

yesterday I had to give the game back to the video store (it costs 2$/day) so I am not able to play PES till I have enuff money to buy it :( I spent my last bucks on the PS2 and now I don't have a single game despite the demo cd which sucks big time.
damn it!

the_man can u please give me info on mod chipping PS2's and what possibilities there are??
