Ok I know theres bound to be answers in other threads but Ive only registered here this morning and need to ask a couple of things!.

First off I was (up to now!) eagerly awaiting the X-Box version of World Cup 2002 this friday, however after hearing some dodgy news im starting to worry about the game basically being total sh**e!.

I mean straight away I expect EA will yet again get all the positions and ratings of the players wrong as they seem to do it every year, why I dont know as they must have people who research the teams for them, its even easier this year as theres only world cup national teams to research for gods sake!, anyone who checks the net or buys something like World Soccer magazine can find the details on players for any country but a huge company like EA cant do it???!!!!, now normally I would put up with using the editor to rectify all the mistakes (something that can only be done on PC usually because other versions dont have enough memory, but X-Box's hard drive should manage it), and now I hear rumours that they've taken the editor out!!!!!

If this is true I cannot buy this game, Im willing to put up with having to mess about for ages editing myself because EA cant be arsed to get it right but Im not going to pay £45 for an "official" world cup game with all the "official" players out of position and with terrible ratings that dont reflect real life at all and no option to change it.

ISS is a better game than FIFA anyway, it always has been but I would like the official world cup game if its half decent.
Someone please tell me Im wrong about the rumours Ive heard but I have a funny feeling that your not going to

:(

Hi there.

Ok, first things first. If you PC has quite a high spec I would go for the PC-CD version on WC2002. If youre lagging a bit, then go for the X-Box copy. The stupid thing is, that on the X-Box they add more speical effects, eg. Flares are set off in the stadium.

Without doubt tho, the PC-CD version is the better choice gameplay wise, because you cwill be bale to get thousands and thousands of patches , updates etc.... Now for the team data, well yes they are a bit out of date. January 25th or sumin like that It was that are up to date with. When you get to choose your squad, you cant call up ANY player, its just the out of date *current* squad. For example, the game has never heard of "Darius Vassel" or Ledley King. The teams arent that bad though, and I am 100% certain that these will get updated in a patch.

The rankings seem to be spot on, as of January, England are 9th, Germany 10th, and them Nasty French Lot, are 1st ;)

Now for the gameplay, well It has pretty much got FIFA2002 written all over it! The shooting is the same, and the dodgey passing, where the players seem to stand still and pass it! I havent actually found the REVOLUTIONARY 360 AIRPLAY TM system yet, I thinks that it is a load of made up rubbish to be honest. I havent yet managed to head the ball into goal, i just seem to get knocked over by the defence instead. However, on EA's credit there a couple of new editions, if you remember on FIFA2002, if teh ball was near the touchline , your players couldn't keep it it playm they just walked it over the line. Well you can now slide in and keep the ball in, whish is very handy to stop own goals ;)

The keepers are still DUMBer than DUMBer! They end up doing hilarious dives accross the pitch when they are no where near the goal. At the begining of a game, all the players stand for the national anthem, which looks fairly good, although its more or less EA's Advanced Orchestra playing a WORLD CUP theme. You can make walls in free kicks, and make them jump, amd the free kicks also seem to head for goal more often.

IN all fairness, the game is a great improvement from FIFA 2002, but most of it is still effectively the same game. The best part though, has to be, the players faces, these are very accurate, Teddy Sheringham and Beckham and Fowler being some of the best.

I think that it will be at least 2-3 years before we have the *perfect* football game.

But it wont do any harm splashing out £27.99 on the PC version from gameplay.

Soryr about the lengthy account, but I hope it helps, feell free to ask me any more questions.

HAHAHHAHHA!!! Gamecube!!! LOL!! Your kidding right. The Xbox is now almost the same price (dropping this Friday) and has almost twice the power (and $1400 worth of gear for $399, that's Aussie so work it out for yourself).

The reason the Xbox version has addons and the Gamecube doesn't is:

a. The hard drive
b. More powerful graphic processor
c. More RAM

Now the Cube is better than the PS2 in terms of power, but who wants to play games like Mario and Zelda. ISS, GTA3 and MGS are coming to the Xbox, case closed!!

:D :D :D :D

for the simple fact I have a PS2, and a pc. I don't want an e-box as it 1) will flop 2) is a glorified pc

and mario and zelda games are some of the best games ever. And withput Mario and zelda the games industry would not be what it is now.

Don't say that about the beloved GameCube. Right now GC doesn't have all the best games, but it is without a doubt the best system to play. The controllers are hands-down the best. The best overall money value. Who wants to play Zelda????? Are you kidding me???? Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the best game of all time! right now titles like SSB:M, Rogue Leader and sports games are good enough for many. It is really a great system. Wish it had Winning Eleven 6...

Gta 3 isnt gonna come to the xbox. Sony has made Rockstar sign a deal where they will release it only for the ps2.

Erm not sure where you've seen me before cos I dont recognize you!, and we sort of went off the subject there!!!!

Thanx Mattthestar for that though, was helpful, dont understand why EA are so lax when it comes to silly things though, like you say they stand for the national anthems but they arent even the real ones, now HOW much memory would it take to chuck the anthems in, they only need a portion aswell not the whole anthem for each team, that coupled with the squads again is what pi**es me off, its an easy thing to implement but they dont bother. Now they even go one further and bring out whats supposed to be the "latest" game with LESS options than the 98 version!!! (no editor ffs theres just no excuse for that).

I would actually go for the PC version but the X-Box has better capabilities than my PC!, I prefer to use the consoles for gaming normally, and to the others I had a PS2 before and quite liked it but the X-Box blows it away for the specs and possibilitys of the machine, the console wont fail unless the software companies dont give them the backing, after all thats why all Segas machines after the megadrive failed (despite the fact they were pretty sh**e!), GameCube does look good but it has no hard drive or DVD features apart from the processor and other differences, and for the record GameCube is being dropped to £130 while X-Box is being dropped on friday to £200 so theres still a £70 difference, also GTA3 is supposed to be being released on X-Box but its delayed for a long while as are the other ports that Sony have had blocked, I cant see how Rockstar would sign a deal to not make it for Microsoft as the game was already in production and they are also making State Of Emergency on X-Box

Your kidding right? It is confirmed. Trust me, I run an Xbox site and deal with developers personally. Here is an article on of our partner Xbox sites has put together:

Missing In Action

Uncovering the marvellous truth about the imminent arrival of Metal Gear Solid X and Grand Theft Auto 3 on Xbox as well as Sony’s dirty tactics.

We’ve had letters asking about these two must-have games than anything else on Xbox. Do they exist or not? Thankfully the answer is a resounding YES despite what their respective publishers want us to think right now. You want the proof? Well, have a butcher’s at these two beauties.

Metal Gear Solid X…..The Proof

Last Month we rang Konami and asked their press spokesperson if Metal Gear Solid X exists. The response; “No comment”. Which is odd because after a root around the archives of Konami’s press releases, we discovered that they were prepared to shout about MGSX from the rooftops in September 2000. Get a load of these actual quotes from Konami’s press release dated 22.09.00…..

“Konami corporation has announced that it has begun development of several game titles for the launch of Microsoft’s future generation game console, Xbox….these titles include Silent Hill X and Metal Gear Solid X a sequel of the 5.5 million world-wide seller action-shooting game”

“These titles have been specially designed for the Xbox and will include fantastic graphics, high quality sound, and hard disk drive features that are unique to the new console. They will provide gamers with intense, action packed game experiences never realised on previous game consoles”

“Konami has already started work on these new titles after receiving around 100 Xbox Development Kits”

Kagemasa Kozuki, Chief Executive Officer of Konami, even went on record to say; “I am delighted to be the first in the industry to announce specific game titles for Xbox.”

Flipping HECK!
So let’s recap. Metal Gear Solid X exists. Konami have been working on it for at least 18 months, it contains unique Xbox features, and it has personal blessing of Konami’s own grand fromage. And all that information comes straight from the horse’s mouth, Konami. So why is that mouth so firmly shut now? Read on…..

Grand Theft Auto 3…..The Proof

Grand Theft Auto 3 for Xbox is under development right now at DMA Design in Dundee. Yet Take 2 and Rockstar Games refuse to talk about it. Seems a bit late now though because in February 2001they couldn’t shut up about it. Here are the crucial points taken from Take 2’s own press release dated 15.2.01 (and still freely available on their website – http://www.take2games.com/index.php?p=pr&release=XBox_Development&page=1).

“Titles in development for Xbox include Grand Theft Auto 3, The much anticipated sequel based on the Grand Theft Auto franchise”

Paul Eibeler, President of Take-Two no less, was even moved to comment in the release: “We are very excited about the prospects for Xbox, and the opportunity to publish titles designed to demonstrate the unique features of this future-generation gaming console.”

Thar She Blows

Grand Theft Auto 3 confirmed in writing for our beloved box. What’s more, Take 2’s head honcho has promised that it’ll contain special Xbox Only feature. And to top it all, the date of this release proves that GTA3 on the Xbox has been in development for over a year. We feel better already.

WHATS GOING ON?!?

A wall of silence has been thrown up around these two games to the extent that our good friends at Take 2 and Konami won’t even talk about them off the record. Clearly Powerful forces are at work. Previously these games were the subject of triumphant proclamations released to the world to enhance the standing of the companies involved. Now the very existence of these games is flatly denied. Could it be anything to do with Sony’s recent anti-Xbox offensive, the latest move in a brewing console war fought between the makers of the PS2 and Microsoft? No other site would dare tell you this, but Sony has been tying up exclusive deals with certain publishers to delay the release of certain big Xbox titles.

BATTLEGROUND EUROPE

This exclusivity tactic is primarily aimed at undermining the launch of Xbox in Europe. With Sony secure in Japan and Xbox predicted to clean up in the US, Europe is where the business behemoths believe the battle will be won and lost. So it’s on our own patch that Sony has directed its main assault.

The exact details of the pacts are secret but our industry contacts have revealed the important points.
Game releases of certain big titles are delayed on Xbox – for six months on average! The game publishers involved aren’t allowed to promote the titles in the territories where the deal applies and they won’t speak to the press about their existence. The inducement? Could it be that large sums of cash change hands and that Sony pays some of the games’ promotion costs on PS2, thus compensating the publishers for any temporary losses that they might incur on the Xbox version?

Most of the games that Sony has targeted so far have been the European releases of games which are already available to buy in the US. But the recent denials of Xbox versions of GTA3 and MGSX suggests that Sony is prepared to pull the strings on a global scale, when it thinks the stakes are high enough.

Leave It Out

Sony’s strategy is obvious. These details help undermine confidence in Xbox. Already we’ve had agonised emails from readers questioning whether it’s worth buying an Xbox if MGSX doesn’t exist. Prospective purchasers scanning the release schedules will question the viability of Xbox when it appears the big games aren’t forthcoming. Confusion reigns as genuine announcements are dismissed as rumour and companies won’t even admit to statements they’ve made a matter of public record by issuing corporate press releases.

Worst of all, innocent gamers are misled and have to suffer while games are suppressed in the name of a pointless console war. Why should Sony scheme to prevent us from enjoying our machines? Aren’t the sales of PS2 ticking along nicely enough?

In short, the situation stinks. But happily it won’t niff for long. The publishers may strike their bargains with Sony, but they know they need Xbox too. They want console competition because ultimately it means more loot for them. That’s why the deals are only temporary. Then the games hit the shelves as nature intended and we can get down to the serious business of playing them to destruction.

And in some ways this whole business is a blessing in disguise for Xbox owners. It means the developers get longer to perfect their games. Tecmo have taken advantage of the natural delay in DOA3’s Euro release to add 50 new moves and extra costumes as well as other special features. We also know of one massive game currently available in the states but blocked under the terms of a Sony deal, that the developers are continuing to enhance, so Europeans will effectively get the 1.5 version by the time it hits Europe.

Anything else? Oh yeah, Metal Gear Solid X and Grand Theft Auto 3 are 100% coming to the Xbox. Believe it

PC are BEST!!

PC's are diffinitely better than any console. They cost more but you only get what you pay for. I have never enjoyed playing a console, even GT3 on PS2.

The problem with consoles is their inflexibility and display. TV's a pathetic. I would much rather have a good 17" monitor than a 100cm TV. The X-Box is just a dodgy PC and even with a hard drive they are crap. It is just an excuse to release buggy games so they can patch them later on. If you are going to use patches you might as well just get a PC and benefit from all the extra stuff (kits balls etc...) as well.

Get WC2002 on PC for the best allround experience.

Ah right!, actually I was on the dugout but I wasnt DarknessDevil on there!, the name comes from a former aol screen name, Ive seen the person your on about!

For the person going on about X-Box, microsoft arent releasing buggy games or patches for the reason that your going on about, its more powerful than most pc's except for like the fairly new models but then again it doesnt need operating systems that take up memory such as windows, Im not biased as I like the PS2 and the look of GameCube but the box clearly has the most potential, that said it seems to be struggling at the mo, I dont know why!

I can understand getting WC2002 on the PC for the updates and that, but the Xbox will have smoother gameplay and better graphics, but like you said you can't update rosters and kits and that. However when FIFA 03 comes around, the online support for the Xbox should be just about done, so it will be as easy to download new kits and rosters from the net with the Xbox as it will with the PC.

Xbox may be smoother than some Pc's but not the very best. And it doesn't matter how smooth it is, you still have a TV with pixels that look like this ->[]:D
